Does mouthwash actually improve oral health?

First of all, do you use mouthwash? if so, do you use it with the aligner in or do you take it out? (I bought extra mouthwash for braces which should not stain anything)

And I have heard that it is controversial as to whether or not mouthwash is actually good for oral health. Specifically, I have heard that it messes up the pH of your saliva, and whatever bacteria is supposed to exist in your mouth. I have also noticed that there is only a few specific formulas that have the ADA stamp of approval. Does mouthwash actually improve oral health?

... Read moreMouthwash has long been a staple in dental hygiene routines, but its effects can vary greatly depending on the formulation and usage. Many experts argue that while certain mouthwashes can help reduce plaque and freshen breath, others may disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the mouth. For example, antiseptic mouthwashes containing alcohol can potentially alter the pH levels in saliva, leading to dry mouth, which could negatively impact oral health. It's crucial to consider mouthwash as a complementary tool rather than a replacement for regular brushing and flossing. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends looking for mouthwashes that have received their seal of approval, as these products have been tested for safety and efficacy. Users should also check the ingredients to ensure that the mouthwash does not contain harmful agents. If using mouthwash with braces or aligners, it's advisable to consult with a dentist, as certain formulations may stain or otherwise affect appliances. Ultimately, while mouthwash can contribute to a fresher mouth, maintaining an effective oral hygiene routine with regular brushing and flossing remains paramount for optimal oral health.

No, it doesn’t really do anything. It just feels like it does. hear me out… swish hydrogen peroxide that will kill the unwanted bacteria and whiten your teeth. I’m gonna pass on the super chemically oral hygiene products.🫶🏼
