Happy Epilepsy Awareness Week 🧠💜

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects the brain and causes recurrent seizures — but it does NOT always look the same for everyone.

💜 Fact check: Not all epilepsy is triggered by flashing lights. Only a small percentage of people with epilepsy have photosensitive epilepsy.

Seizures can vary from brief “staring spells” to full-body convulsions, and many people live full, active lives with the right treatment and support.

Let’s replace myths with facts and stigma with understanding. 💜

... Read moreLiving with epilepsy can be a unique experience for each person, which is why raising awareness is so important. From my own experience and stories shared by others, I’ve learned that epilepsy doesn’t always present as dramatic seizures. Some individuals experience subtle symptoms like momentary confusion or staring spells that are often misunderstood or overlooked. It is also crucial to understand photosensitive epilepsy, which affects only a small percentage of people with the condition. For most, seizures are triggered by different factors such as lack of sleep, stress, or certain medications. This means generalizations often lead to stigma and misinformation. Many people with epilepsy are able to live full, active lives with the right treatment plan — which may include medication, lifestyle adjustments, and having a supportive community. Awareness campaigns like Epilepsy Awareness Week help replace fear with understanding, encouraging empathy rather than judgment. For anyone newly diagnosed, or who knows someone living with epilepsy, recognizing the diverse symptoms and learning about the condition can make a significant difference. Simple actions like learning first aid for seizures and being open to conversations about epilepsy help break down stigma and create safe, welcoming spaces for everyone. Ultimately, epilepsy awareness means listening to those affected and sharing accurate facts — which helps build compassion and support for a neurological condition that impacts millions worldwide.

Purple Books for Epilepsy Awareness
Last week was Purple Day! It's Epilepsy awareness!! I don't know how many know, but I was diagnosed 16 years ago, when I was 21 years old with epilepsy. I was in the Army at the time, and the general guess is that duplicate vaccinations may have been the cause, but nobody really knows! 🤷‍♀️

I honestly just want to thank my boyfriend and my sister for being there. They helped keep me safe and made sure I didn’t fall off the chair. I know it wasn’t easy to watch, but I’m really grateful they stayed calm and knew what to do. This is part of my life with epilepsy. It’s not easy to shar

The recovery after a seizure sucks. 🥺 But having Ace by my side through it all makes the world of difference. He doesn’t leave me until I’m safe & I feel like me again, and that kind of loyalty and comfort makes the hardest days a little less heavy. 💜🐾 #seizureawareness #epilepsyawareness #

I had just come out of a big epileptic seizure before even starting my day. I was too groggy to notice an alert from Echo — and Ruben was too busy cleaning up the mayhem from the first seizure to notice. Typically, Echo barks to alert. But when human help is present, he’s taught to alert quietl

So I finally got discharged after 5 long days in the epilepsy monitoring unit. 🧠💜 My neurologist/epileptologist gave me some “homework” to take with me. Basically, it’s the same thing I’ve been told before to watch out for my seizures but now there’s more follow-up involved. I have to start

I was not expecting to post this. I have been doing so good with seizures. I hate feeling so disappointed in myself thinking maybe there’s something I could have done differently.. maybe I could have taken my epilepsy medication earlier.. maybe I played with the kids too much.. maybe I tried to eat

Lately, I’ve been dealing with more stress induced seizures. They may not always look “severe” on the outside, but they’re still exhausting and they take a real toll on my body. What’s frustrating is that I’ve seen people online say that stress induced seizures “aren’t a thing”… but they are. Stres

What Living With Epilepsy Really Feels Like 💜😭
POV: you use humor to survive having epilepsy 😭💜 Epilepsy Awareness Week is about more than seizures — it’s about breaking stereotypes, educating others, and making people with epilepsy feel seen instead of misunderstood. The awkward comments are endless, but awareness can change that. 💜
