Costco’s price match policy has me feeling wrong
I'll start by saying that Costco is my happy place and I love you all.A few months ago I purchased a Ninja Thirsti for $150. The product has been going great and I have no reason to complain or return it.
Today I saw them on sale for $70. Clearly Costco is trying to get rid of their inventory at that price.
I asked the returns people if they price match. They said they only do it for thirty days. I then asked if I could purchase the cheaper one and - since it's the same item number - do a return on the one I bought a few months ago. The employee told me that if you do that and try to do a return that it will only show the most recent purchase which would have been for the $70. I finally asked if I could return my used Thirsti for the $150 and then just buy a new one for $70. He said ""yeah, you can do that.""
That just feels so immoral, but damn $80 is a lot.
I'm not complaining about the thirty day price matching because that makes total sense or their return policy which is the greatest in the world, but together they do create an incentive to be very wasteful. I could get a brand new device, refills on the CO2 and flavors, and make $80 if I feel like being an asshole. But the point of buying it in the first place was to be more environmentally friendly and I'm quite sure the used device wouldn't be resold.
I feel like in situations like this they should make an exception for the 30 day return policy.
For the record, I won't be returning my used device. I've asked my neighbor to look for it on their next run. If it's still there I'll pay them back for it and then return it on my card since it's the same item number.
