Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pie
Old fashioned buttermilk pie is an easy pie recipe that produces a rich, thick, sweet custard-like center when baked.
This is one of the simplest pie recipes ever, too, as you just add a quick custard filling to a prepared pie crust and bake for just under an hour! The filling bakes into a nice soft custard and is very delicious.
Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pie
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 stick unsalted butter (1/2 cup), room temperature
3 large eggs
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked
Preheat oven to 300°F. Cream together the sugar and butter until well blended.
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until the mixture is smooth. Add the vanilla, salt, and flour. Gradually beat in the buttermilk until fully combined.
Place the pie shell on a foil-lined baking sheet. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the pie shell, filling it to the top. Pour any excess into an ungreased custard cup.
Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool before serving. Store covered in the fridge.
