Pothos Plant Timelapse | 38 Hours in 20 Seconds 🍃

Hey fellow plant parents! If you're anything like me, you probably get a thrill from watching your green babies thrive and multiply. Pothos propagation is one of the most rewarding and easiest ways to expand your plant collection or share the love with friends. Watching a timelapse, like the one I shared, really highlights just how amazing these plants are at bouncing back and growing new life. But beyond the mesmerizing visuals, actually propagating a pothos is super simple, and I want to share my go-to method and some tips I've picked up along the way. My favorite way to propagate pothos is through water propagation. All you need are a healthy mother plant, some clean sharp scissors or snips, and a clear glass jar or vase. First, look for a stem with at least one node – that's the little bump on the stem where a leaf attaches and where roots will emerge. I usually aim for cuttings with 2-3 leaves and at least one node. Make your cut just below a node. You can even snip off the lowest leaf if it's going to be submerged in water, to prevent it from rotting. Once you have your cuttings, place them in a jar of clean room-temperature water. The nodes need to be submerged. Now, here's where the magic (and patience!) comes in. Place your jar in a spot with bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can make the water too warm and encourage algae growth. I try to change the water every 3 to 5 days, or whenever it starts looking cloudy, to keep it fresh and oxygenated. This is crucial for healthy root development. You might not see much happening for the first week or so, but don't give up! I've noticed that usually, after about 7 to 14 days, you'll start to see tiny white nubs forming at the nodes. These are your new roots! It's incredibly satisfying to watch them grow longer and branch out. The timelapse I shared really compresses this exciting process into just a few seconds, showing how much can happen in just 38 hours once those roots decide to take off. Sometimes, I swear I can see them grow centimeter by centimeter! Once your roots are about 1 to 2 inches long, they're ready to be transferred to soil. This usually takes about 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the plant and conditions. Choose a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. Gently plant your rooted cuttings, making sure not to damage the delicate roots. Water thoroughly after potting, and then treat your new pothos just like a mature plant, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. A little tip: Don't feel you have to wait for super long roots. Sometimes, waiting too long can make the transition to soil harder, as water roots are slightly different from soil roots. I've had great success potting them up when they are a healthy inch or two. Propagating pothos is such a fulfilling journey, from snipping a stem to watching it become a lush new plant.
