Cherry Crisp Bars 🍒
Recipe Below ⬇️⬇️
10 tbs butter melted
1/2 C brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 C flour
1 C old Fashioned oats
1/2 tsp baking soda
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 C of jam (I used cherry)
Mix together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add in remaining ingredients except the jam and mix. Set aside 3/4 cup of the dough and press the rest into the bottom of a greased and lined 8x8 pan. Bake the bottom crust at 350 for 10 min. When that is done pull it out of the oven and spread your jam evenly on top. Crumble the remaining 3/4 C of dough on top and bake another 15-18min. When it comes out it will be loose and jiggly, just let it cool. Once cool slice and serve. You can store these at room temp or in the fridge if you prefer a firmer texture!
Cherry crisp bars are a delightful dessert that combines the wholesome texture of old-fashioned oats with the sweet and tangy flavor of cherry jam. From personal experience, using quality melted butter and allowing the bars to cool completely before slicing really enhances the texture, resulting in a crumbly yet moist bite. One tip I’ve found helpful is to use a high-quality fruit jam or even fresh cherry preserves if available, which adds a more natural fruit flavor and less artificial sweetness. The cinnamon and baking soda in the crust mixture also elevate the flavor profile, adding warmth and a subtle rise to the bars. Baking the bottom layer first at 350 degrees for 10 minutes ensures a firm base that holds the jam layer well, preventing sogginess. When you spread the jam evenly over the partially baked crust and then crumble the remaining dough on top, the bars develop a satisfying crumbly topping that contrasts nicely with the smooth jam layer. If you prefer a firmer texture, storing the bars in the refrigerator is a great option. However, if you like them more tender and chewy, keeping them at room temperature works perfectly. These bars make a great snack or dessert and are also excellent for batch baking since they hold up well over a few days. For variations, consider experimenting with other jam flavors such as raspberry or apricot, or adding chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the dough for added crunch. This simple recipe is versatile and easy to customize based on your taste preferences. Overall, these cherry crisp bars are a crowd-pleaser with minimal prep and bake time, making them an ideal treat for family gatherings, potlucks, or just whenever you crave a comforting homemade dessert.
