why you should lift WITHOUT shoes

this goes for lower body lifts, upper body lifts are ok, you want the most balance and stability, right? If you are lifting in spongey training shoes, its essentially like lifting on marshmallows - NOT VERY STABLE HUH?

I recommend lifting without shoes or finding very flat training shoes for most lower body lifts.

... Read moreLifting without shoes can significantly improve your overall performance during weight training exercises. When you lift weights with traditional training shoes, the spongey sole can destabilize your stance, making it difficult to maintain proper form. This instability is particularly problematic during lower body exercises like squats and deadlifts, where a solid connection to the ground is crucial for power transfer. Many trainers and athletes advocate for barefoot lifting or using flat-soled shoes to ensure maximum stability. Barefoot lifting allows your feet to engage directly with the ground, enhancing proprioception—the body's ability to sense its position in space. This heightened awareness can lead to better balance and improved mechanics, reducing the risk of injury. If lifting without shoes isn't your preference, opt for minimalist shoes that have a thin, flat sole. These types of shoes can provide a similar feel as being barefoot while still offering some protection for your feet. Incorporating barefoot lifting into your routine can enhance your functional strength, as it promotes the activation of stabilizing muscles that are often neglected when wearing cushioned footwear. As you make the transition to lifting without shoes or with minimal footwear, it's essential to start slow and focus on your form. Make modifications as needed to ensure you stay safe while reapportioning the load throughout your body. Overall, lifting without shoes or in flat-soled footwear can maximize your lifting capacity, enhance stability, and lead to more effective workout sessions.
