A higher entropy means more unpredictability and thus, more data is needed to represent information accurately. Conversely, lower entropy indicates more predictability and enables better compression. In encryption, entropy reflects the strength of cryptographic keys and random number generators, where higher entropy equates to more secure systems. AI systems also rely on entropy to evaluate the uncertainty in predictions, which can improve decision-making processes and model performance. Signal processing uses entropy to analyze and filter noise from meaningful signals. The example of a fair coin toss with equal probabilities (0.5 for heads and tails) results in one bit of entropy, representing maximum uncertainty. In contrast, a biased coin (with heads probability 0.95) has much lower entropy (~0.29 bits), indicating greater predictability and less informational content in each flip. Building further, predictive monitoring extends the concept of entropy by not just assessing disorder after it appears, but by focusing on instability before it occurs.
