TIPS on how to stop shopping addiction?🙂‍↕️

Soooo.. I need tips and advice.. i kind of grew up tight on money, my mama was a strong single mother and me and her would often splurge on clothes whenever she had extra money.

In a lot of ways I understand that she was also just a girl growing up and she grew up poor as well so shopping was always OUR self care treats we loved to do the most.

People always say that materialistic things get thrown away easily, but personally i’ve held a lot of value to most of the things i’ve had and even had fast fashion clothing items for YEARSSS, would only donate them if they absolutely did not fit me anymore…

And i used to always say, if the satisfaction of temporary shopping therapy only lasts right after you purchase the item, how come i would get myself attached to the item in an emotional way and hold on to it for years? 🤔

Anyways my boyfriend gave me bday money today and I went and splurged it all on PINK, and some online shopping >.< (ugh i was in heaven ngl!!)

but it dawned on me that i HAD been splurging and shopping like crazy the past couple months.

I am definitely not a hoarder, i just moved to a new place w my bf and didn’t have a lot of stuff and went crazy after i started having some extra cash.

I always excused myself with “money comes and goes” or “i deserve it i worked so hard for this”

But how do I stop my urge to just always want to look for something new?!!!?! It is so tempting I literally feel ADDICTED to shopping and I don’t even have a lot of money!!!

I was extremely broke for a long time and now I’m just going crazy and I’m afraid I will never learn to be smart with my money because of this “addiction.”

... Read moreShopping addiction can often stem from emotional attachments and past behaviors, such as those formed during upbringing. The thrill of treating oneself, especially after periods of financial struggle, can lead to impulsive spending. To combat this addiction, it’s essential to first identify triggers, such as emotional lows or environmental cues that lead to the urge to shop. Keep a spending diary to track purchases and reflect on motivations behind each one. Setting a budget is crucial; determine how much you can afford to spend each month and stick to it. Consider adopting alternative coping strategies like picking up a new hobby, exercising, or practicing mindfulness and self-care to replace the emotional void that shopping fills. Educating yourself about the impacts of consumerism may also shift your perspective on material goods. Surround yourself with supportive friends or join groups focused on financial health to maintain accountability. Lastly, if the urge becomes overwhelming, seeking professional guidance can provide tailored strategies to tackle shopping addiction effectively.

i try to screenshot online or take pictures in store of what it is i want/find cute, then i leave without buying it & if it’s still on my mind a few days later after i’ve had some time to think then i’ll go get it, if not then i have a cute picture of it & realise i didn’t really like/need it as much as i thought 💗
