“funny how you grow up thinking your parents were too strict… then boom, you become a parent and start sounding exactly like them 😭”
cool mom fasho… but after having kids, I owe my parents a couple apologies 😂”
It’s funny how life has a way of bringing things full circle. I remember as a kid thinking my parents were way too strict, holding family meetings to figure out how to handle me and my antics. Back then, I was probably saying, "You're so cool," to any older friend, dreaming of freedom and less supervision. But now that I have kids, I find myself echoing those very same phrases and rules I once resisted. Parenting is a rollercoaster of emotions, and one of the biggest surprises is how much you start to understand and even appreciate your parents’ discipline. It’s not just about rules; it’s about wanting the best for your kids, guiding them when they don’t realize they need it. Sometimes, you feel like the 'cool mom' trying to balance being supportive while also setting boundaries. I’ve learned that those family meetings my parents used to hold were their way of staying connected and making sure everyone felt heard and supported—even during tough times. Now, I see value in creating those open conversations with my own children. It’s comforting to know that being a parent means continually learning and sometimes apologizing to your own parents for misjudging them as a kid. If you’re navigating the challenges of parenthood, remember you’re not alone in this journey. Growing up, we all struggle with understanding our parents, but becoming a parent yourself can deepen your empathy and reshape your view on family and discipline.
