I spent years trying to figure out which version of me people would understand.
Mom.
Engineer.
Creative.
Model.
Brand strategist.
Director.
Turns out… I was asking the wrong question.
I wasn’t supposed to pick one.
I was supposed to build a brand big enough to hold all of them.
The moment I stopped trying to fit into one box, everything got lighter.
What’s one “hat” people would be surprised you wear? 👇
For the longest time, I struggled with trying to define myself by a single role or identity. Society often pressures us to specialize or be known for one thing, whether as a career or personal attribute. But through my journey, I realized the power of integrating all the diverse hats we wear into a cohesive personal brand. For instance, balancing careers in engineering and creativity might seem contradictory, but when combined authentically, they showcase depth and versatility. I found that deliberately crafting a brand narrative that embraces such multifaceted identities not only reflects my full self but also resonates with a broader audience. This approach aligns with the mantra from the OCR content I came across: "STOP BRANDING EVERYTHING. BRAND YOURSELF." It emphasizes focusing on your unique combination of traits rather than trying to fit every aspect into separate branding efforts. One practical tip is to identify the common threads that connect your varied roles—values, skills, or passions—and highlight those in your storytelling. This way, your audience can see the whole picture rather than fragmented parts. Ultimately, I’ve learned that owning all my roles—from mom to director—not only makes my personal brand richer but also lighter because I stopped forcing myself into one predefined box. To anyone feeling pulled in many directions, embracing every “hat” you wear can be liberating and empowering. What’s one surprising role or aspect you’ve embraced that others wouldn’t expect?
