Let’s accomplish our goals!
Let’s work toward our health & nutrition goals together 💕 #mealprep #lemon8challenge
Hey everyone! I used to find setting health goals, especially nutrition ones, really overwhelming. I'd often say 'I want to eat healthier' but never quite get there. That's when I discovered SMART goals, and they've been a game-changer for my eating habits. If you're struggling to make your nutrition goals stick, keep reading! SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Applying these principles transforms vague wishes into clear, actionable plans. Let me share some examples from my own journey: S - Specific: Instead of 'eat better,' be precise. My goal: 'I will consume at least 5 servings of vegetables daily.' Or, 'I will swap sugary cereal for oatmeal with fruit three times a week.' M - Measurable: How will you track progress? For veggies, I count servings. For water, I use an app. A measurable goal: 'I will drink 8 glasses (64 ounces) of water daily,' or 'I will reduce processed snacks to only once a day for five days a week.' A - Achievable: Goals should challenge but be realistic. Don't go from zero veggies to ten overnight! I started with 3 servings and gradually increased. An achievable goal: 'I will try one new healthy recipe each week' rather than 'cook every meal from scratch every day.' R - Relevant: Your nutrition goals should align with broader health aspirations. My increased vegetable intake supports my energy. For saving money, a relevant goal: 'I will pack my lunch from home four days a week instead of buying takeout.' It needs to matter to *you*. T - Time-bound: Give yourself a deadline! This creates urgency. My daily vegetable goal is time-bound, but you can also set weekly or monthly goals. E.g., 'I will successfully meal prep all my lunches for the next four weeks,' or 'I will replace sugary drinks with water for 30 days.' How does meal prepping fit in? For me, meal prepping is essential for hitting my SMART nutrition goals! It eliminates guesswork and 'what's for dinner' stress. By dedicating a few hours on Sunday, I portion out healthy meals and snacks for the week. This makes it easy to be specific about what I eat, measure portions, and ensures achievable goals are met since food is ready. It's relevant to consistent healthy eating and helps me stay *time-bound*. Here are a few tips for your SMART nutrition goals and meal prep: Start Small: Focus on one or two SMART goals first. Plan Ahead: Use a planner for meals and grocery lists. Batch Cook: Prepare larger quantities of staples. Track Progress: Seeing progress is motivating! Be Kind to Yourself: Slip-ups happen; just get back on track.
