Many writers would have heard this advice.
"Show, Don't Tell."
But when actually writing...
May secretly suspect that
So what's the difference?
📝 Tell
Mew feels very uncomfortable near dazzling.
🖋️ Show
Mew moved the box a little more, the edges of the box cradled her arms until it felt itchy, the sweat permeated the palms of her hands making the floor of the paper crate slippery slightly, while the other stood flawlessly gracefully in a confined space, she felt as if her body was compressed to a smaller size.
Both sentences communicate the same story.
But the latter way
Make the reader "feel" instead of "perceive."
That's the heart of the Show, Don't Tell.
✨, but the show isn't just emotional.
Sometimes it can hide clues.
Let's take this example.
"One film car parked unnaturally long, two motorcycles left an orderly distance as if waiting for a secret order."
At the first reading,
Many people might think it's just a scene detail.
But in Thriller fiction,
This little detail might be telling the reader something.
The writers didn't honestly say
"Mew is being watched."
But let the reader observe himself.
🎬 Show also applies to action scenes.
Tell
Terin is a very dangerous person.
Show
The clicks of the hydraulic system rang gently in silence, his eyes looked straight at Pran, and he was smiling.
"I found myself... my bonus."
Readers don't have to be told he's scary.
Because the atmosphere acts instead
Another example.
Tell
Chand loves Pran very much.
Show
She didn't fight, but she used all the force to push the pra and case bag into the dump shaft.
Then she turned around.
Then he hugged the mechanical arm of the pin
To buy even a second.
There is no word for love.
But the reader is more clearly aware than many love words
🌷 So Show, Don't Tell
Doesn't mean
"Banning Dell."
But it is the selection of moments that should give the reader a "touch" on their own.
Because sometimes
The reader will believe what he finds himself.
More than what the writers honestly say.

การใช้เทคนิค Show, Don’t Tell ในการเขียนนั้นเป็นอะไรที่ผมรู้สึกว่าสุดยอดมาก เพราะมันช่วยทำให้ผู้อ่านรู้สึกเหมือนได้อยู่ในเหตุการณ์จริง ไม่ใช่แค่รับรู้ข้อมูลแบบผ่านๆ ตัวอย่างที่บทความยกมา คือการใช้ภาพและรายละเอียดเล็กๆ น้อยๆ อย่างเห็นภาพมากๆ เช่น การบรรยายว่ามิวขยับกล่องจนขอบกล่องครูดที่แขน แล้วเหงื่อที่ฝ่ามือทำให้ลังกระดาษลื่น นั่นทำให้ผมรู้สึกว่าสถานการณ์มันตึงเครียดจริงๆ เหมือนเรากำลังอยู่กับตัวละคร ไม่ใช่แค่การบอกว่ารู้สึกอึดอัดอย่างเดียว อีกหนึ่งประโยชน์ของการใช้ Show ก็คือการซ่อนเบาะแสหรือรายละเอียดสำคัญในฉาก ตัวอย่างเรื่องรถติดฟิล์มและมอเตอร์ไซค์จอดทิ้งระยะห่างแบบเป็นระเบียบ ซึ่งฉากธรรมดาๆ นี้กลับส่งสัญญาณลึกๆ ว่ากำลังมีอะไรแบบลับๆ ซึ่งถ้าเขียนแบบ Tell ตรงๆ ว่า "มิวกำลังถูกจับตา" อาจจะทำให้ความตื่นเต้นลดลง แต่พอใช้ Show ก็เหมือนเชิญชวนให้ผู้อ่านค้นหาความหมายเอง นี่เป็นเทคนิคที่ช่วยเพิ่มความน่าติดตามในนิยายแนว Thriller ได้ดีมาก ผมเองเคยลองนำ Show, Don’t Tell มาใช้กับงานเขียนของตัวเอง พบว่าเรื่องราวดูมีชีวิตและน่าติดตามขึ้นมาก ไม่ว่าจะใช้บรรยายอารมณ์ ความรู้สึก หรือฉากแอ็กชันต่างๆ พอผู้เขียนไม่บอกตรงๆ แต่อาศัยบรรยากาศและรายละเอียดที่สัมผัสได้ ผู้อ่านก็จะรู้สึกเชื่อมโยงและอินกับตัวละครมากขึ้นจริงๆ อย่างไรก็ตาม การใช้ Show ก็ไม่ได้หมายความว่าห้ามใช้ Tell เพราะบางที Tell ก็จำเป็นสำหรับการสรุปหรือบอกข้อมูลสำคัญที่ไม่ต้องการให้ผู้อ่านตีความเอง เทคนิคนี้เหมือนศิลปะที่ต้องเลือกใช้ให้เหมาะสมกับช่วงเวลาของเรื่อง เพื่อให้ผู้อ่านได้สัมผัสเรื่องราวตามจังหวะที่นักเขียนตั้งใจ สุดท้ายแล้ว ผมคิดว่าเทคนิค Show, Don’t Tell เปรียบเหมือนการสร้างประสบการณ์ร่วมให้ผู้อ่านได้รู้สึก "ด้วยตัวเอง" มากกว่าการรับข้อมูลผ่านการบอกเล่าแบบธรรมดา ใครที่อยากพัฒนาทักษะการเขียน ลองฝึกเขียนแบบ Show ดูนะครับ รับรองเรื่องราวของคุณจะมีพลังและดึงดูดใจคนอ่านมากขึ้นอย่างแน่นอน
