I failed my 75 Hard before I started…

…And that’s okay!

I had intended to start my 75 Hard challenge on January 6th but my whole day ended up going completely sideways. 75 Hard is a mental toughness challenge so I firmly believe if you’re not in a good headspace when you start you’re destined to fail.

Some things I’m doing to prepare for my new start date:

• planning my workouts and daily schedule ahead of time

• making sure my school to do list is up to date

• packing my gym bag the night before

• keeping my work water cup in my car so I don’t forget it

... Read moreThat initial feeling of 'I FAILED 75 HARD Before I even got started...' was actually a huge lesson for me. It wasn't just about missing a start date; it was about realizing that this isn't just a physical challenge, it's a profound mental journey. And for a journey like this, you need more than just a calendar date; you need a fortress of a mindset. My experience made me dig deeper into what a successful 75 Hard journey truly demands. It's easy to list the rules: two 45-minute workouts, a gallon of water, strict diet, no alcohol, 10 pages of reading, progress pic. But how do you sustain that for 75 days, especially when life inevitably throws curveballs? I’ve learned that a 'good headspace' for 75 Hard means more than just feeling optimistic on day one. It means cultivating resilience. It means anticipating the tough days – because they will come. What will you do when you’re utterly exhausted, soaked to the bone from an outdoor workout, and craving a sugary treat? Having a plan for these moments is just as crucial as planning your workouts. For example, beyond my initial prep list, I'm now thinking about specific strategies for mental fortitude. This includes setting up a 'no-fail' routine for my reading – maybe always doing it right before bed, no matter what. For my water intake, I'm not just keeping a cup in the car; I’m scheduling mini-reminders on my phone every hour. And for the workouts, I’m building a varied list: not just gym sessions, but also hiking trails, home HIIT videos, and even long walks with a podcast to keep things fresh and prevent boredom from derailing my motivation. Another aspect of the journey often overlooked is the psychological impact of constant discipline. It's normal to feel overwhelmed, to question your commitment, or even to feel physically drained. This is where the 'mental toughness' truly kicks in. I’m preparing a list of affirmations and motivational quotes, and I’m lining up accountability partners – friends who are also on their own health journeys, even if not 75 Hard, to check in with daily. Sharing the highs and lows, even just with a quick text, can make a huge difference. Remember, the 'journey' isn't about perfection; it’s about persistence. It’s about picking yourself up after a difficult moment and getting right back on track, rather than letting one slip-up define your entire effort. My initial 'failure' before starting showed me the importance of respecting the magnitude of this program. It's not just a challenge; it's a complete lifestyle overhaul for 75 days, designed to rewire your habits and your self-belief. Embracing that process, with all its anticipated struggles and triumphs, is what truly defines the 75 Hard journey.
