A guide on how to use retinol 👀

How to use retinol! 🤍

Its is very important that you slowly work your way up to using retinol multiple times a week! I suggest using it a little at a time!

First you need to prep the skin by going in with a toner. Next you go in with a serum that will hydrate and soothe the skin. Next grab your favorite retinol, my favorite is from Paula’s Choice. Finally top it off with a hydrating moisturizer.

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard all the buzz about retinol and you're ready to dive in, right? I totally get it! When I first started my retinol journey, I was a bit intimidated. The key, I quickly learned, is to introduce it slowly and support your skin every step of the way. My simple routine has truly transformed my skin, and I want to share even more details on how I make it work for me, especially for those worried about irritation. First off, let's talk about that hydrating toner before retinol. This isn't just an extra step; it's a game-changer! I always reach for a gentle, alcohol-free hydrating toner in a spray bottle – it feels so refreshing. This helps balance my skin's pH and adds a layer of moisture, making my skin more receptive to the next steps without stripping it. Think of it as preparing a smooth canvas. Next, comes my go-to hydrating and soothing serum. This is crucial for buffering the retinol, especially if you have sensitive skin or are just starting out. I look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or ceramides. Applying this clear serum before my retinol helps provide an extra cushion of moisture, reducing potential dryness or irritation. It's like giving your skin a big, comforting hug before the heavy lifting begins! Now for the star of the show: the retinol treatment itself. I always apply my retinol at night, making sure my skin is completely dry after the serum has absorbed. A pea-sized amount is truly all you need for your whole face – trust me, a little goes a long way! I gently pat it onto my skin, avoiding the eye area initially. This focused retinol serum skincare routine application is where the magic happens, addressing concerns like fine lines and texture. And finally, the absolute non-negotiable step: a rich moisturizer after retinol. This is where my ultra-hydrating ceramide moisturizer comes into play. Ceramides are like the building blocks of your skin barrier, and they are essential for repairing and protecting it, especially when using active ingredients like retinol. Applying this moisturizer generously helps to lock everything in, prevent moisture loss overnight, and significantly reduces any flakiness or tightness I might experience. It’s integral to my entire retinol moisturizer routine. For those with super sensitive skin, or if you're experiencing any redness, I can't recommend the retinol sandwich method enough! This technique has been a lifesaver for many. Here’s how I do it: First, apply a layer of your favorite moisturizer, then apply your retinol, and finally, follow up with another layer of moisturizer. This literally "sandwiches" the retinol between two layers of hydration, greatly minimizing irritation while still allowing you to reap the retinol skincare benefits. It's a fantastic way to ease into more consistent applying retinol at night. Beyond just application, understanding different retinol skincare routine products is helpful. Whether it's a retinol serum or a retinol cream, the texture can vary. For example, some the ordinary retinol serum texture on skin might feel oilier or more watery. What’s important is finding a product that suits your skin type and consistency preferences, and always looking for a good vitamin a retinol serum to ensure you're getting the active ingredient. Consistency is key with retinol, so stick with your chosen retinol skincare step and be patient! You'll love the results.
