"Final" electrical works and a couple of hiccups

It's so magical to see all the LED strip lights installed finally, after 90% of the carpentry has been completed. Our rather dim entryway now can be fully lit. We have yet to visit the place when it's really dark at night to see how the lights illuminate the place. Our pendant light is also up!

A couple of hiccups still need to be rectified such as the ceiling mounted spotlight which clashes with our wardrobe door. And... our decor fan got wrongly installed in our study room instead of the living room. I'm guessing because the wire point in our living room got shoved back into the false ceiling, the electrician missed it and thought that it would go into the study where the wire was dangling...

We're really in the final lap of this 3+ month long reno. Im getting excited to furnish this place fully.

... Read moreCompleting the electrical work in a home renovation always brings a special sense of accomplishment, especially when lighting plays such a key role in setting the ambiance. Installing LED strip lights is one of my favorite parts because they offer flexible illumination and highlight architectural details nicely. In my entryway, which used to be rather dull, the LED strips have transformed the space, making it inviting and warm—something I can’t wait to see fully at night. However, even with detailed plans, hiccups happen. For example, a ceiling spotlight ended up clashing with a wardrobe door, and my decorative fan was installed in the wrong room. These kinds of issues are rather common and often stem from communication gaps or last-minute wiring challenges, like a wire point being pushed too far into a ceiling void. From personal experience, it’s best to stay patient and work closely with your electrician during the final stages. Sometimes small adjustments, like relocating a light fixture, can solve these problems without much hassle. I also recommend double-checking wire placements early on to avoid surprises. These challenges are part of the renovation journey and ultimately make the finished home feel more personalized. As I approach the furnishing phase after over three months of renovation, I reflect on how crucial lighting is—not just for function but for creating mood and enhancing design elements, especially in a Japandi-style setting where simplicity meets natural warmth. If you’re working on a similar project, don’t overlook lighting plans early on, and be prepared to adapt as you go. The result is definitely worth the effort.
