🌾 Southern-Style Smothered Pork Chops

Ingredients (serves 4):

4 boneless pork chops (about 1 inch thick)

2 tbsp butter (or oil)

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced (or ½ tsp garlic powder)

2 tbsp flour

1 ½ cups chicken broth

½ cup heavy cream (or whole milk if you want it lighter)

½ tsp paprika (optional, for color)

½ tsp thyme (dried or fresh)

Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and a pinch of paprika.

2. Sear chops: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high. Brown pork chops 3–4 minutes per side, then remove to a plate.

3. Cook onions & garlic: Add onions to the same skillet, cook until soft and golden (about 5–6 minutes). Stir in garlic for 1 minute.

4. Make the roux: Sprinkle flour over onions, stir well, and cook for 1–2 minutes to get rid of raw flour taste.

5. Add liquids: Slowly whisk in chicken broth, then cream. Stir until it thickens into gravy.

6. Season: Add thyme, more salt, and pepper to taste.

7. Smother: Return pork chops to skillet, spoon gravy over them. Cover, reduce heat to low, and let simmer 15–20 minutes until tender.

8. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits — with extra gravy on top.

Baked smothered PorkChops
For these easy baked smothered pork chops I put them in the oven at 375° for an hour and 25 minutes. They came out super tender, and absolutely delicious. I took a total of five pork chops and seasoned them with Cajun two-step onion powder, garlic powder, and kinder all purpose seasoning .
