Last Day of CNA training

Externship tomorrow 😩

2025/3/12 Edited to

... Read moreWow, what a journey it's been! Today was officially my last day of CNA training, and honestly, it feels surreal. All those weeks in the CNA training classroom have flown by, and now the externship is tomorrow! I’m feeling a mix of nerves and pure excitement to finally apply everything we’ve learned in a real-world setting. Our CNA training class practicing patient care has been incredibly hands-on, which I really appreciate. From the very beginning, we, CNA students practicing patient care, were taught not just the theory but how to actually perform tasks. I remember our instructors emphasizing the importance of proper body mechanics when helping patients transfer from beds, ensuring their comfort while assisting with hygiene, and even the best ways to feed someone who needs support. We've spent countless hours in our white scrubs in the simulated hospital setting, practicing on each other and on mannequins, which has really built my confidence. It's one thing to read about it, but another entirely to actually do it! One of the most crucial skills we honed was taking vital signs. I distinctly recall the sessions dedicated to accurately measuring temperature, pulse, respiration, and of course, student blood pressure. We learned to use the blood pressure cuff correctly, how to listen for those distinct sounds, and the importance of documenting everything precisely. It felt a bit daunting at first, trying to perfect the technique, but with repeated practice, it became second nature. We even had a mock scenario where we had to take vital signs on different "patients" with varying conditions, which was a fantastic way to prepare for your CNA career. It really highlighted how critical these basic observations are in identifying changes in a patient's health. And then there was the academic side! The New Age Training program really pushed us, but in a good way. The final exam was a big hurdle, and seeing that 1-100 answer sheet waiting for us was a moment. We studied everything from anatomy and physiology to patient communication and ethical considerations. My classmates and I spent hours reviewing concepts, quizzing each other, and going over practice questions. It wasn't just about memorizing facts; it was about truly understanding the "why" behind each procedure and patient care principle. Passing that exam felt like a huge accomplishment, confirming that all the hard work in the classroom had paid off. Now, with the classroom phase complete and the final exam behind me, my mind is buzzing about the externship. This is where we'll transition from practicing patient care on beds in a simulated environment to assisting real patients in a healthcare facility. It's the moment we've all been working towards. I know there will be new challenges and learning opportunities every single day, but I feel well-prepared thanks to the comprehensive training. I'm ready to bring my skills and compassion to those who need it, and I can't wait to see what this next chapter holds. Wish me luck!
