How to Survive the workforce: Black Women

I'm a realist.

Black women do not have real allies just people who want free labor. This post is important because money matters . we live in Sexist Racist Society and its not going to change but you can know how to navigate it.

INDEPENDENT Contracting and BUINESSS Ownership: The best solution to survive this system is to not depend on it as much as possible. Do not work in corporate America (too many microaggressions, racism and bored married people). Take your intelligence and created your own buiness, so you can work for yourself. That alone will make you avoid 95% of racism colorism and antiblackness. You're the boss and you can hire anyone. If you dont want all the responsibility make sure you become a INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS. Independent contractor works for a company but they are still Independent workers they make thier own schedule and thier still working for themselves. That alone will cut out 90% of the bs most black women will face in the work force. I keep telling ya the system isnt going to change but you have to learn how to work around it.

Racism classism colorism and Ethic xenophobia:

Working in a cultural diverse setting isnt going to save you as a black woman because most cultures globally have a colonized mentality .Poc solidarity doesn't exist you just have to learn how to protect yourselves from everyone and everything. Black Americans have to be very careful in the workforce because a lot of people from different backgrounds tend to target AA people because of flase stereotypes or they are extremely xenophobic. If you're a Black American woman, you need to build a rico case ,have a employment attorney, eeco as soon as you walk into the workforce because people are already trained to harm you . Make sure you doucment , have evidence and slow down and watch people carefully because most likely they are going to slip up. Antiblackness is taught in every culture but you can use thier racism and turn it into a lawsuit( if they are doing wrong things). This is for black woman who are working in a diverse workplace. Remember when you're at these jobs you dont have friends make your money and leave. Self preservation and protection is your number one priority. Colorism and classim places a huge role. If you're a brown or dark skin woman older men are the best people to work for because they are not going to compete with you. Just do you're job. If you're a darker skin woman only work in spaces that have a high population of women who look like you. Unfortunately most poc and black ppl still play into colorism and you dont need to be around that. The best advice is to avoid working around ppl who carry that type of behavior. I will always tell ya the truth. People are never going to change but you dont have to be around them.

Education and branching off: Go get your degree learn the skills but dont stay in these companies long always branch off and start your own buiness. The world is use to exploiting black women but in this generation this can come to a end.

... Read moreNavigating the workforce as a Black woman can often feel like walking through a minefield of systemic challenges such as racism, colorism, and sexism. From my own experiences and conversations with other Black women professionals, the reality is clear: traditional corporate environments frequently present microaggressions and barriers that undermine your potential and well-being. However, there are empowering strategies that can help mitigate these challenges and create sustainable success. One effective approach is embracing independent contracting or entrepreneurship. This path allows you to regain control over your work environment, schedule, and opportunities. Building your own business not only helps avoid much of the discrimination prevalent in corporate culture but also opens doors to financial growth and freedom. When you work for yourself or as an independent contractor, you dictate your terms and can create a professional community that uplifts rather than undermines. Another crucial aspect is understanding and preparing for the complex social dynamics within diverse workplaces. Unfortunately, solidarity among people of color isn’t always a given, and Black women can sometimes face xenophobia or stereotyping from coworkers of different backgrounds. Keeping meticulous documentation and knowing your legal rights can be a powerful defense, especially if discrimination occurs. Consulting with an employment attorney or an EEOC representative early can empower you to protect yourself effectively. Moreover, self-preservation means setting boundaries. Avoid seeking friendships in hostile work environments; focus on doing your job excellently and safeguarding your mental health. Recognizing colorism and classism within workplaces is also vital. Working under supervisors or in environments where you feel respected and valued, such as spaces with strong representation of women who look like you, can greatly improve your daily work experience. Education remains a key tool. Acquiring skills and credentials is important, but it’s equally important to have a plan to transition toward entrepreneurship or independent work rather than staying stuck in exploitative settings. Black women have historically been exploited, but today’s generation is reshaping the narrative by prioritizing autonomy and rejecting oppressive norms. In sum, surviving and thriving in the workforce as a Black woman depends on a combination of strategic independence, awareness of workplace dynamics, legal preparedness, and self-care. By applying these insights, you can transform challenges into opportunities for empowerment and success.
