HOW I CUSTOMIZED MY GOOGLE CALENDAR FOR SCHOOL 🗓️

New semester, new google calendar!!

If you are trying to be more organized this semester, you should definitely consider making a google calendar. Every morning, I will plan out my day with my Notion to do list (for a task list) and google calendar (for timing). This is by far the most effective way I’ve tried to be productive during the busy school year.

First, make new calendars, one for each class. Then create recurring events under those calendars during the the days and times of your classes.

Customize the color of your calendars! I did shades of pink and green for mine :)

Also I have calendars for personal, social, content, and appointments. This way everything is in one place. It is super important to visualize your day and know what you have to accomplish in order to be productive!

I've found that simply having a Google Calendar isn't enough; it's how you set it up on your laptop that truly makes a difference, especially when you're juggling a busy August 2025 semester or planning all the way to December 4, 2025. First, let's talk about setting up those separate calendars. On your laptop, look at the left sidebar in Google Calendar. You'll see an option to 'Other calendars' or 'Add other calendars'. Click the plus sign and choose 'Create new calendar'. This is where you can make specific calendar categories like 'Lecture A', 'Lab B', 'Study Sessions', 'Appointments', and even 'Personal Events'. Don't be shy about creating many! Having them distinct makes your weekly view so much cleaner and easier to read at a glance. Once your calendars are created, populating them with your classes is key. When you create an event for a class, make sure to set up custom recurrence. Instead of manually adding each class session, you can select 'Repeats' and then 'Custom...'. Here, you can tell Google Calendar to repeat weekly on specific days (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and set an end date, like the last day of your semester. This saves so much time and ensures you never miss a lecture. On my laptop screen, I always make sure these recurring events are clearly laid out in my weekly view. Now for the fun part: color-coded organization! Beyond just aesthetics, using different colors is a game-changer for visual learners. For example, all my academic classes might be in shades of green – maybe a darker green for lectures and a lighter green for labs. Appointments could be in bright pink, personal events in a calming blue, and social outings in a vibrant yellow. You can easily change the color of each individual calendar from the left sidebar by clicking the three dots next to its name. Watching my Google Calendar weekly view transform from a jumble of default colors to a beautifully organized, color-coded masterpiece truly boosts my motivation. Another tip I've picked up for using Google Calendar on my laptop is to integrate tasks. While I use Notion for detailed to-do lists, Google Calendar has its own 'Tasks' feature. You can enable it from the left sidebar, and add quick tasks directly to your calendar view, setting deadlines and reminders. This helps me keep smaller action items, like "email professor" or "read chapter 3," right within my schedule. Finally, remember to use features like 'Event details' to add important notes, links to online classes, or even location details for your scheduled classes or appointments. And don't forget to block out dedicated study time and breaks! Seeing those blocks in your weekly view on your laptop makes it real and helps prevent burnout. Staying organized with Google Calendar on your laptop is a skill that pays off throughout your entire academic journey!
