BEAUTY MATH: DRUGSTORE POWDER BLUSH…🫢 (details below)

if you're new here - welcome!! my name is rachel, i worked in finance for the last two years and reviewing beauty products from an analytical or "finance-y" lens is kinda my thing! 👩🏼‍💻

i created beauty math to take my videos one step further and REALLY dive into this analysis

the full guide is linked in my bio, but as a refresher, here's how "beauty math" works:

- each episode focuses on a new product "category" (i.e., concealers, skin tints, cream blush, etc.)

- we'll focus on typical packaging size, product amount, good / bad things to look for and most importantly VALUE of each category

- by the end of the series you'll be able to quickly assess any product as you're shopping so you know when something is good value... or not🫣

along with each episode i drop the PDF for the category so you can go look at how any product stacks up against the rest ! I’ve also included my personal fav picks at the top now (this is new, so let me know if you prefer this or still want a follow-up video explaining my picks!)

so follow along, stay tuned for the next episode and vote what category we should discuss next !!

see you next time💌

... Read moreWhen shopping for drugstore powder blushes, understanding the value behind price and product size truly changes the game. In my experience, applying a financial lens to beauty purchases helped me avoid impulsive buys and focus on products that offer genuine worth. For example, blush sizes can vary widely—from as little as 2.8 grams to over 17 grams—and the price per gram is the key metric to evaluate if you’re getting your money’s worth. One tip I found invaluable is comparing the price per gram rather than just the sticker price. Some high-end blushes might look expensive upfront, but when you calculate their cost per gram, they sometimes offer better value than certain drugstore options. Conversely, some drugstore blushes with very low prices might offer poor value if the amount of product is minimal. During my own journey, I discovered that median cost per gram for drugstore powder blushes hovered around $1.56, but the range stretched from as little as $0.35 to nearly $4. Some luxury brands can run much higher—around $6.44 per gram—but occasionally, there are more affordable luxury options, like Pat McGrath’s blushes priced about $4.02/g, which could justify their premium quality. Another important aspect is packaging and product amount. Larger blush pans might seem better value, but formula quality and pigmentation matter as well. A highly pigmented blush means less product is needed per application, effectively stretching the product's life. For those new to this approach, compiling information in spreadsheets or using provided PDFs (like in the Beauty Math series) can help visualize and compare products objectively. Personally, this has saved me money and improved my blush game—choosing shades and brands that deliver both beauty and value. Ultimately, approaching makeup shopping with this analytical mindset helps you avoid overpaying and makes your beauty routine more sustainable and enjoyable. Staying informed and voting for upcoming categories in educational series like these empowers all of us to shop smarter every day.
