If the Gospel of Judas Tells a Different Story, Why Wasn’t It in the Bible? 🤔

I recently learned about the Gospel of Judas, and it surprised me how different its account is from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

It made me wonder: if early Christians had multiple writings about Jesus, how was it decided which books became part of the Bible and which ones didn’t?

I’m not trying to attack anyone’s beliefs, I’m genuinely curious what you think. Have you ever read about the Gospel of Judas?

... Read moreWhen I first came across the Gospel of Judas, I was struck by how its narrative sharply contrasts with the canonical gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This immediately got me curious about the early formation of the Christian biblical canon and how some texts were embraced while others, like the Gospel of Judas, were excluded. From what I gathered, during the early centuries of Christianity, numerous writings circulated regarding Jesus' life and teachings. Church leaders faced the complex task of determining which books accurately conveyed orthodox beliefs and which did not. Factors like apostolic authorship, consistency with accepted doctrine, and widespread usage in worship communities were critical in these decisions. The Gospel of Judas, discovered in the 1970s, portrays Judas Iscariot not as the betrayer of Jesus but as a disciple acting on Jesus’ own instructions. Such a radically different perspective was at odds with the theological positions of early church authorities. This likely contributed to its exclusion from the canonical Bible. Reading about early Bible history helped me appreciate the complexities involved in forming the Christian scriptures. The Gospel of Judas offers insightful glimpses into diverse early Christian thoughts, revealing that the story of Jesus was once understood in many ways before the canon was finalized. If you’re interested in exploring this further, consider diving into studies on the Nag Hammadi library discoveries and the criteria used by early church councils for canon formation. It’s fascinating to see how historical context and theological priorities shaped the Bible we know today.

I don’t know what bible you’re reading but Judas does not have a gospel. Judas went to damnation for betraying Jesus and the committing suicide. There was no decision! It was written by different men in 6 different continents that spoke different languages and they were inspired by the Holy Spirit is the best way I can describe it. The gospel of Judas is gnostic and something else. It’s the one true living word of God!

It was looked into by people who know their stuff & found to be total trash. Written centuries later by an anonymous author trying to defame Christianity but getting so many details wrong. It's not just "different", it was labeled "apocryphal" for very good reason.
