Happy Brooklyn Half Race week!!
Thanks to @Runna for curating a training plan for me to hopefully achieve a new PR for this Saturday! Over these past 13 weeks it's been a lot of miles and mental battle to prepare for this race. Commuting to a plan and a race so seriously is something new to me and I can wait till NYC marathon this fall!
Training for a half marathon like the Brooklyn Half is not only a physical challenge but also a significant mental journey. Over the course of 13 weeks, the consistent mileage and focused training can greatly improve endurance and confidence. It's important to embrace each run, whether it's a long run or a shorter recovery session, as integral parts of the overall progress. One key aspect that helped make this training successful was following a structured plan crafted by a knowledgeable coach or platform like Runna. This ensures balanced buildup in mileage and intensity, reducing injury risk while improving performance. Sticking to the plan also creates a routine that builds mental discipline, which is just as crucial in race preparation. For those new to serious race training or juggling busy schedules, commuting and daily responsibilities can feel daunting alongside the running commitment. But integrating runs into daily life, such as running near home locations like state parks, makes the process more manageable and enjoyable. This journey can be especially motivating when reflecting on personal growth, such as moving from a difficult starting point—including significant weight loss—to competing in multiple half marathons and gearing up for a full marathon like the NYC Marathon. Tracking progress through photos or videos during runs helps maintain motivation by visualizing how far you've come. If you’re preparing for your first race or aiming for a personal best, know that training consistently and listening to your body are key. Celebrate the small victories in your running journey and remember that the mental strength developed is just as rewarding as the physical achievements. For those running the Brooklyn Half, connecting with fellow runners and supporters on race day adds an inspiring community spirit that powers everyone to cross the finish line stronger.
