Never Grow Up
POV: You Get On The Trampoline With Your Kids….. You’re never too old to have a good time!
You know that feeling when the kids are bouncing off the walls, and you just need a moment of peace, but they need to burn energy? That's exactly where an 'active pause' comes in! I recently rediscovered the magic of our backyard trampoline, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer for those moments. Seeing the joy on their faces as they jump, flip (or attempt to!), and giggle uncontrollably is infectious. And honestly, joining them, just like the 'POV: You Get On The Trampoline...' moment, is not only a fantastic workout for me but also an incredible bonding experience. We often think of breaks as sitting down, but for kids, an active pause is so much more effective. It helps them release pent-up energy, improve focus, and even regulate their emotions. After a good jump session, my kids are usually calmer and more ready to tackle the next activity, whether it's homework or quiet playtime. Beyond just burning energy, trampolining offers a ton of benefits. It boosts cardiovascular health, improves balance and coordination, and strengthens muscles – all while feeling like pure fun! It's amazing how a simple piece of equipment can provide so many developmental advantages. Plus, it’s a fantastic mood booster for everyone involved. Laughter and jumping just go hand-in-hand! If you're looking to create more active pauses for your kids, here are a few tips I’ve picked up: Safety First: Always make sure your trampoline has a safety net and that only one or two kids (depending on size/age) are jumping at a time. Supervise, supervise, supervise! Make it a Game: Instead of just free jumping, try calling out commands like "jump on one foot," "touch your toes mid-air," or "bounce as high as you can!" You can even play simple games like 'Follow the Leader'. Set a Timer: Sometimes a 10-15 minute active pause is all you need. Setting a timer helps manage expectations and keeps the energy high without overdoing it. Join In! Seriously, don't just watch. Getting on the trampoline with them, even for a few minutes, makes it so much more fun for everyone. It shows them that being active can be joyful at any age. Vary the Routine: If a trampoline isn't an option, or you want to mix things up, other 'active pause' ideas could be a quick dance party, a run around the yard, a short bike ride, or even a scavenger hunt. The key is movement and fun! Embracing these active breaks has not only helped my kids but also reminds me to 'never grow up' completely. It's a wonderful way to inject some spontaneous joy and physical activity into our daily routine. Give it a try, and you might just find yourself jumping for joy too!
