cannot begin to explain our emotions…maybe just check in on us from time to time…
PRESS RELEASE:
AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - On Friday in Augusta, the Maine Army National Guard held a send-off ceremony for a unit being deployed to Saudi Arabia.
More than 130 soldiers from the 136th Engineer Vertical Construction Company were surrounded by friends, family and others ahead of the deployment.
Leadership of the company say it’s the first engineering unit to head overseas since 2013. They will support Operation Spartan Shield with construction, electrical work, and masonry.
“To hold command in any capacity, it’s not a right, it’s an honor and to be afforded the opportunity to command a unit mobilizing in our MTOE, so our engineer capacity is the greatest honor of my military career,” answered Commander of the 136th E.V.C.C. Capt. Henry Gibson. “Not many officers have the opportunity to one, hold command, let alone hold command of a unit going overseas to execute our mission. “
The unit, which is split between Skowhegan and Lewiston, has some remaining training to do before heading overseas where they stay for about seven months. Copyright 2025 WABI. All rights reserved.
