Painting that I started today !

Hey fellow art enthusiasts! ✨ You know, watching anime like 'Blue Period' really gets you hyped about the journey of becoming an artist, right? That feeling of diving deep into a subject, wrestling with your materials, and seeing something come to life on the canvas? It's universal, whether you're dreaming of anime-style pieces or, like me, getting down and dirty with a live model and some oil paints! Today, I wanted to share a bit more about the process of the figure painting I'm working on. It's an oil painting, done on a classic white canvas, focusing on capturing the essence of a seated figure. It’s been such an interesting challenge! Starting with an initial sketch, you really have to pay attention to proportions and the overall gesture. Then comes the exciting part of laying down those initial brown washes. This earlier stage is all about blocking in the main forms and establishing the light and shadow areas, outlining the form without getting too caught up in details. It’s like building the skeleton of your painting before adding any flesh. As I progressed, I moved into developing the skin tones. Our model had beautiful dark brown skin tones, and it's always a learning curve to mix and layer colors to get that rich, luminous quality. I found myself experimenting with subtle greenish-blue highlights in certain areas – it’s amazing how a cool tone can make the warmer skin tones pop and add so much depth. This stage really starts bringing the figure to life, moving past the initial brown washes into something more substantial. It's not just about mixing colors; it's about constant observation. I'm working in an art studio scene, surrounded by other artists and their works, which is always inspiring. Having my easel set up, with my artist's palette full of different hues and all my supplies neatly laid out, really helps me get into the zone. The goal is to get to a nearly finished state, where the figure feels present and real, even if it's not absolutely perfect. Every brushstroke is a decision, a push and pull, and sometimes you just have to trust the process. Just like in 'Blue Period,' the journey is filled with moments of doubt and breakthroughs. Seeing the painting evolve from an initial sketch to developing those complex skin tones, and finally reaching an advanced stage with those beautiful greenish-blue highlights, is incredibly rewarding. It teaches you so much about patience, observation, and the magic of oil painting.
