Here’s what I learned from interviewing doctors 🥰

1/11 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my experience as a new mom, adopting the pediatricians' advice on baby-led weaning and early allergen introduction transformed our mealtime struggles into joyful bonding moments. Instead of starting with bland rice cereal, I followed their recommendation to offer iron-rich foods like ground beef and lentils right from the start, which helped meet my baby’s nutritional needs effectively. Introducing allergens such as peanut butter and eggs at 6 months was daunting at first, but learning that early exposure can reduce allergy risks by up to 80% gave me the confidence to proceed carefully and watchfully. I made sure to watch for gagging versus choking — understanding that gagging is noisy and normal helped me stay calm during early feeding attempts. The use of herbs and spices from 6 months onward was something new to me. Avoiding salt, sugar, and honey while enriching meals with gentle seasonings like garlic and mild herbs not only made the food tasty but also prevented my baby from becoming a picky eater, which I had feared. Baby-led weaning was the most rewarding approach. Allowing my baby to self-feed encouraged independence and sensory exploration, and despite initial messiness, it built crucial motor skills and self-confidence around food. Using apps to track foods and progress, as some pediatricians recommended, made this process feel structured and achievable. Overall, trusting my baby’s instincts combined with the solid advice from pediatricians made starting solids less stressful. For new parents, focusing on iron-rich first foods, timely allergen introduction, gentle seasoning, and baby-led self-feeding can foster healthy eating habits that last a lifetime.

My baby is 6m recently and I’m debating on waiting and exposing. I waited a year with her oldest brother and he was exclusively breatfed but he was a picky eater. I guess I’ll go ahead with this, thank you for this post
