... Read moreStarting solids with your baby can be an exciting yet daunting journey. From personal experience, combining both baby-led weaning and purees worked best for us, allowing baby to explore textures and learn independence while ensuring adequate nutrient intake. When introducing solids around six months, it’s vital to look for readiness signs such as good head control, sitting steadily, and interest in food rather than relying on age alone. Iron is a cornerstone nutrient during the first year, essential for brain development and preventing anemia. Including lentils, spinach, red meat, eggs, and fortified tofu in meals gave my baby a nutritious boost. Pairing these iron-rich foods with Vitamin C, like a little fruit or tomato, helped maximize absorption. Healthy fats also play a key role in brain development, with options like avocado, salmon, eggs, and full-fat dairy contributing essential DHA and Omega-3s. These fats support cognitive growth during the crucial early years. Understanding the difference between gagging and choking is life-saving; gagging is common and usually harmless while choking is an emergency requiring immediate action. Staying calm during gagging episodes allows your baby to learn safe eating skills. Tracking foods with apps, similar to the Tummi app, helped me identify potential allergens and avoid foods risky for choking or allergies, such as whole nuts or unpasteurized honey. Early introduction to top allergens like milk, eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts under pediatric guidance may reduce allergy risks. Lastly, avoid feeding babies under 12 months cow's milk, honey, added salt, added sugars, certain fish high in mercury, and choking hazard foods like grapes and popcorn. Always consult with your pediatrician if you are unsure. Feeding your baby solid foods is a personalized journey. Using feeding charts as a guideline while observing your baby’s cues provides confidence and ensures safety and nutrition during this milestone.

Feeding FAQs For New Moms 🍼💡
Real talk + things I had to Google at 3AM 📌 1. “Is my baby getting enough milk?” → Wet diapers are key! 6+ per day usually means baby’s well fed. 📌 2. “Why does my baby fall asleep while feeding?” → Totally normal, especially in newborns. Try burping, switching sides, or tickling their feet
