Darn ADHD got me in a fantasy land
Damn 🙄... #adhd #limerance #hyperfixation
Living with ADHD often means experiencing emotions and thoughts more intensely than others, and this can deeply influence our perceptions and relationships. One recurring theme for many is limerence, which is an intense, obsessive form of romantic desire. When combined with ADHD, this can lead to periods of hyperfixation where one becomes deeply engrossed in a person or idea to the point of losing perspective. From my own experience, the moment when the "ADHD limerence wears off" is eye-opening. You suddenly see that the person you idealized doesn't match the fantasy you built around them, and sometimes, you realize you didn’t even truly want that relationship. This can be painful but also liberating—it’s a chance to reclaim your focus and emotional energy. Managing these shifts involves learning to recognize the signs of hyperfixation early and grounding yourself through mindfulness or journaling. Connecting with others who understand ADHD’s quirks helps too, as does seeking professional support when needed. Remember, ADHD doesn't define you but shapes how you experience the world, including love and attachment. By acknowledging these experiences honestly, you gain the power to create healthier, more balanced relationships and foster self-compassion along the way.
