Unpopular opinion: mock necks are SO underrated

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I love to be cozy which is exactly why I love mock necks/turtle necks! This style neck line was made for fall weather, it’s such a good temperature transition piece to have in your closet!

For this look, I kept it simple with jeans and new balance sneakers. Yet I feel like the mock neck immediately elevated the look! My black bag and black belt are the perfect pops of contrast. Plus they bring out the dark soles on my sneakers, bringing the whole look together!

I have so many mock necks! Let me know if you want to see how I’d style more looks like this 💞

... Read moreOkay, so I know I mentioned my love for mock necks, but I really want to dive deeper into why they've become such a staple in my wardrobe, especially for fall! A lot of people wonder, 'what exactly is a mock neck shirt?' and trust me, it's simpler than you think. Basically, it's a type of neckline that stands up around your neck but doesn't fold over like a traditional turtleneck. Think of it as a chic, subtle version of a turtleneck – it covers your neck just enough to keep you warm without feeling too restrictive. That's why I find them perfect for those tricky transitional weather days. I used to shy away from them, but now I own so many, from a crisp white short-sleeved mock neck top like the one I'm wearing with my light blue jeans and white sneakers in my mirror selfie, to cozier long-sleeved mock neck sweaters. They truly elevate even the most casual outfit. For example, by simply adding a black belt and a matching black shoulder bag, my simple mock neck and jeans look instantly feels more put-together. It's all about those small details that bring the whole look together! Beyond basic tops, you'll find mock necks in various styles. There are elegant mock neck blouses, chunky mock neck sweaters perfect for colder days, and even athletic mock neck sweatshirts for a sporty vibe. Each offers a different level of warmth and formality, making them incredibly versatile. I love how a short-sleeved mock neck can be worn on its own when it's mild, or layered under a jacket or cardigan when the temperature drops. Styling them is surprisingly easy. For a casual day, I often pair my white short-sleeved mock neck with high-waisted jeans and my favorite white sneakers, just like in my photos. But don't stop there! You can dress up a fitted mock neck top by tucking it into a flowy midi skirt with ankle boots, or layer a thin mock neck under a blazer for a sophisticated office look. For chillier evenings, a mock neck sweater with tailored trousers or even leather pants looks super chic. The key is to let the clean lines of the neckline shine. And for those of you who get confused, 'what's the difference between a mock neck and a turtleneck?' or 'mock neck vs crew neck?' It boils down to the neck height and fold. A turtleneck typically folds over, creating a thicker, higher collar. A mock neck stands up but doesn't fold, offering a sleeker profile. A crew neck, on the other hand, is a round neckline that sits flat against the base of your throat, offering no neck coverage. So, if you're looking for that perfect balance of warmth, style, and comfort without the bulk of a full turtleneck, a mock neck is definitely worth adding to your closet. It's truly an underrated gem that can completely transform your fall outfits!
