Lately I’ve been not only loving but experimenting with different combinations of fruits. This bowl was no different!!!
Grapes, Oranges, Grapefruits, Watermelon, Blackberries and Blueberries ugh oh so deliciously good to satisfy my craving.
Now, some say you can’t mix sour with sweet because your stomach acid have to be able to distinguish between the two, but I think I may have a stomach of a cast iron skillet (as my grandmother use to say) because it does absolutely nothing to my stomach… no bloat, no GERD, no digestion issues no nothing but allow my stomach to be full off of nature’s candy.
Let fruit be thou food and leaves thou medicine (Ezekiel 47:12 KJV)… It’s biblical!!!
So the next time you are craving something oh so good, opt for a delicious fruit bowl and if you are a salt girlie, don’t forget to add a sprinkle of Celtic Salt… 🗣️Game Changer!!!
... Read moreHey fruit lovers! You know how much I adore a good fruit bowl, especially those vibrant, colorful ones overflowing with nature's candy. After sharing my go-to sweet and sour mix, I wanted to dive a little deeper into why these bowls are so amazing and how you can create your own masterpiece.
First off, let's talk about the magic of color! When you see a bowl bursting with red watermelon, deep purple blackberries, bright orange slices, green grapes, and yellow grapefruit wedges, it just makes you happy, right? Beyond the visual feast, all those different colors mean a wider range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants for your body. Think of it as a rainbow of goodness in every bite! I always try to pick fruits from different color groups – reds, blues, oranges, greens – not just for the aesthetic but for the nutritional punch. It’s like a mini-adventure for your taste buds and your health.
Now, about that sweet and sour debate. I mentioned my 'cast iron skillet' stomach, and honestly, I believe listening to your body is key. For me, combining fruits like the sweet burst of blueberries with the tangy zing of grapefruit or the juicy sweetness of watermelon with a few tart red grapes creates a flavor explosion without any digestive woes. If you're new to mixing, start with fruits you know your stomach tolerates well. Some popular sweet and sour pairings include pineapple with mango, or strawberries with kiwi. Don't be afraid to experiment! That's how I discovered my absolute favorite combinations.
Want to make your fruit bowl extra special and super fresh? Here are a few tips I've picked up:
Choose Seasonal: This is a game-changer for flavor! Seasonal fruits are at their peak ripeness and taste. Plus, they're often more affordable.
Variety is Key: Don't just stick to two or three fruits. The more variety, the more colorful and exciting your bowl will be. I love adding a mix of textures too – crunchy grapes, juicy watermelon, soft berries.
Prep Matters: When I'm making a colorful fruit salad, I make sure everything is washed thoroughly and cut into bite-sized pieces. This makes it easier to eat and ensures every spoonful has a bit of everything. For citrus like orange slices or grapefruit wedges, I sometimes supreme them (remove the membrane) for an even smoother texture.
The "Pop" Factor: A sprinkle of fresh mint or a squeeze of lime juice can elevate your fruit bowl to another level. And if you're a 'salt girlie' like me, a tiny pinch of Celtic salt truly is a game changer – it really brings out the sweetness of the fruit!
These vibrant fruit bowls aren't just for a quick snack, either. They make a fantastic healthy breakfast, a refreshing side dish for brunch, or even a light, naturally sweet dessert. I've even served them at small gatherings, and they're always a hit – everyone loves a fresh, colorful fruit bowl! They're proof that healthy eating can be incredibly delicious and beautiful. So go ahead, get creative, and build your own perfect, colorful fruit salad. You might just discover your new favorite craving satisfier!
