Study with me at Columbia University

Here’s how I spend a study morning!!

First I love working in the library, especially this one!! I didn’t study that much at the big library at my undergrad, but really find this one great for focusing.

I always make a todo list, check my calendar and get in order first thing just to make sure I’m staying as organized as possible.

The next thing is my morning are always where I do the most work. I prioritize doing big tasks first because I work best in the mornings, but this is really based on how you work.

... Read moreHey fellow students! Building on my morning routine at Columbia's incredible library, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what makes studying here so special and share some extra tips I've picked up. If you're searching for inspiration on how to make the most of your study sessions at a place like Columbia University, especially around the iconic Low Library, you're in the right place! First off, let's talk about the vibe. There’s something truly motivating about being surrounded by the history and academic energy of a grand university library with its high ceilings and bookshelves. It's not just a place to hit the books; it’s an experience. I've found that finding my perfect spot is key. Sometimes I love the quiet corners for deep dives into complex code in my Jupyter notebook, while other days I prefer a spot with a bit more ambient buzz. My advice? Explore the different areas of Low Library – whether it's a quiet reading room or a more open space – to see where you feel most productive. Speaking of productivity, my morning routine always starts with getting organized. Just like you saw, my digital clock usually shows me starting around 9:24 AM, and the first thing I do is pull out my notebook for a handwritten to-do list. Then, I check my detailed calendar for October 2024 (or whichever month it is!) to map out my day. This isn't just about knowing what's due; it's about strategically allocating my peak focus hours. I always try to tackle my most challenging tasks first thing in the morning when my mind is freshest. For instance, coding assignments that require intense concentration are perfect for this time. But studying isn't just about being cooped up indoors! The beauty of Columbia's campus is that you can easily switch up your environment. On a sunny day, you'll see plenty of students studying right on the Low Library steps or scattered across the green lawns. It’s an amazing way to soak up some fresh air and get a different perspective. A quick walk around the paved walkway can be a fantastic mini-break to clear your head before diving back into work. I often use these outdoor moments to review notes or plan my next steps, like what I'll be working on until lunchtime. Here are a few more pro tips for studying effectively at Columbia: Hydration & Snacks: Always have water and a healthy snack. My cold coffee is a staple, but staying fueled helps maintain focus. Digital Detox Breaks: Even if you're working on your laptop, step away from the screen during breaks. Look at the beautiful architecture, chat with a friend, or just close your eyes for a minute. Utilize Resources: Columbia offers so many academic support services. Don't hesitate to use tutoring, writing centers, or even just ask librarians for help. Connect with Peers: Studying with friends can be incredibly motivating. Just make sure it’s productive study, not just social time! Sharing what you're working on, even if it’s just a quick "What's on your to-do list?", can build a sense of camaraderie. Remember, everyone's study style is unique. The key is to find what works for you in this amazing academic environment. Whether you're deep in the stacks or enjoying the campus outdoors, make every study session count!
