Black History Month Reads?

Wondering if anyone has made any plans for February reads around celebrating Black History Month. I attended a Black History Month celebration event in the past weekend. and I plan to read 4 books to increase my knowledge but also diversify my reading list.

Anyone else planning to do so? Want to buddy read any of the following? Meet for discussion, message about learnings, etc.

I am planning on reading:

- The Blood of Emmett Till - Timothy B. Tyson (started... didn't realize this author was white but wanted to finish this book... I want to eventually read ""Death of Innocence"" in addition to this)

- Three Mothers: How How the Mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation - Anna Malaika Tubbs

- Such a Fun Age - Kiley Reid

- I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings - Maya Angelou (one of my personal favourite people in the world)

... Read moreAs February approaches, it's the perfect time to immerse yourself in literature that not only celebrates Black history but also enriches your understanding of the culture and achievements of Black individuals. Alongside the books mentioned—"The Blood of Emmett Till" by Timothy B. Tyson, "Three Mothers" by Anna Malaika Tubbs, "Such a Fun Age" by Kiley Reid, and "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou—consider including classics such as "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker, which won the Pulitzer Prize, and poignant reads like "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson. These books provide a spectrum of experiences and perspectives, shining a light on the resilience and contributions of Black individuals throughout history. Participating in buddy reads can enhance your understanding, allowing for shared insights and discussions, which can deepen your appreciation of these powerful narratives. Consider joining online reading forums or local book clubs that focus on Black authors and topics, which can provide community support and diverse viewpoints. Embracing these enriching reads not only diversifies your bookshelf but also enhances cultural awareness and understanding—an important goal as we honor Black History Month.

Thank you for sharing. This is a very unique Black History Month. I recently have tried to read a few more black authors. I made a group on Facebook. Can I follow a lady on TikTok that you know promotes black authors to their fullness!!
