Big thanks to my little brother
My brother is definitely graduating from the Air Force, and I have to say, out of me and my sister, I never expected him to get involved in something like this. I tried to join the Army National Guard back in high school, but I really struggled with the ASVAB test, especially the math part. I never thought I would make it, and I gave up, not just because of the test, but because I wanted to explore other opportunities. I focused on other things during high school, and my parents wanted me to finish school first. Personally, I couldn’t handle a 9-to-5 at 16 like they wanted me to—I wanted to get through high school and move on, but it was tough. I even tried during the pandemic, but most branches, except for the Navy, didn’t want civilians with tattoos, especially from the neck down, and since I have tattoos, I looked into other options.
But seeing my brother succeed in this is really amazing. San Antonio, being a military city, has so much to do with veterans, from discounts to Uber drivers who are retired veterans themselves. It’s fascinating to hear the stories and experiences of those who’ve served. I’m so proud that my brother has been given this opportunity, and I’m glad he’s getting a heads-up on what he’s stepping into. He’s really smart, and this opportunity speaks to his ability to excel, especially when it comes to exams and military standards. He’s only 19, and what he’s done is huge, not just for him but for our family as well. The military takes care of so many people, even when life gets tough.
