This phenomenon stems from Cuba's unique political structure, where the Communist Party maintains strict control over public expression and assembly. Genuine labor dissent is heavily suppressed, and independent unions are outlawed, which means workers lack autonomous representation. Therefore, May Day does not serve its usual purpose of collective bargaining or voicing social grievances.
