Why do all my plants die?

Not too much on my outfit. 🤣 Whatever shoes are at the door type of day!

“You can’t kill mint,” said the man at the farmer’s market as he hands me my first plant. 2 weeks letter it was brown sticks.

I thought the patio would be full of colorful flowers. I would sit outside read and journal while butterflies landed on my pen. No for real, I thought that!

What are the easiest plants to keep alive?

I love plants so why don’t they love me?

... Read moreOkay, fellow plant strugglers, I completely get it! That feeling when you bring home a hopeful little seedling, only for it to turn into brown sticks within weeks? Been there, done that, bought the sad plant shirt. My patio dreams often turn into plant graveyards, and honestly, it's soul-crushing. But I refuse to give up, and with some research (and a lot of trial and error!), I've picked up a few things that might help us all. Why Are Our Little Plug Plants Dying? Let's Troubleshoot! It's super common for those cute little plug plants, fresh from the nursery, to struggle. They've just been through a big change! Here are some common culprits and how I try to tackle them: Transplant Shock is Real: Imagine being uprooted and dropped into a whole new world! Plug plants are delicate. When you repot them, try to disturb the roots as little as possible. I always make sure their new home (pot or garden bed) is ready first, so they spend minimal time out of soil. Gently loosen the root ball if it's super tight, but don't rip it apart. The Watering Conundrum: This is my personal nemesis! I used to either drown them with love or forget them entirely. For plug plants, consistent moisture is key, but not soggy. Stick your finger about an inch or two into the soil. If it feels dry, water. If it's damp, wait. Drainage holes are non-negotiable! Light Shock: They might have come from a greenhouse with perfect, filtered light. Suddenly putting them in direct, scorching sun or deep shade can be a shock. I try to 'harden them off' by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week or two. Start with a few hours of morning sun, then increase gradually. Nutrient Deficiency (or Overload!): Plug plants are often young and need gentle feeding. Too much fertilizer can burn them, too little can starve them. I usually wait a couple of weeks after repotting before giving a diluted, all-purpose liquid feed. Pests & Diseases: Inspect your plugs carefully before buying. Little critters can quickly spread! If you see any signs, isolate the plant and treat it immediately with an organic pest spray. My Quest for Easy, Hardy Outdoor Plants (Especially Those with Big Green Leaves!) Since my delicate floral dreams often wilt, I've started looking for more robust, low-maintenance options, especially for my outdoor space. And honestly, a lush, green look can be just as stunning as flowers! Here are a few I've had success with, or heard great things about for beginners: Hostas: These are champions for shady spots. They come in so many varieties with gorgeous large, textured leaves, often variegated! Just watch out for slugs and snails – a little beer trap or slug bait works wonders. They're super resilient and come back year after year. Elephant Ears (Colocasia/Alocasia): If you want dramatic, tropical vibes, these are fantastic! They love moisture and partial sun. Their huge, heart-shaped leaves are truly showstoppers. I found them pretty forgiving as long as they don't dry out completely. Ferns (Hardy varieties like Ostrich Fern or Lady Fern): For a woodland feel, many outdoor ferns are incredibly tough once established. They thrive in shade and bring beautiful texture. Just make sure the soil stays consistently moist. Rhubarb (Ornamental varieties): Yes, the pie ingredient! But some varieties, like 'Victoria', have massive, sculptural leaves that look incredible in a garden bed. They need plenty of sun and rich soil, but once they get going, they're hard to stop. Canna Lilies: While they do flower, their big, paddle-like leaves (often green, bronze, or variegated) are a huge appeal. They love full sun and regular watering, giving a fantastic tropical pop to any patio. Remember, every plant is a learning experience. Don't beat yourself up if one doesn't make it. It's all part of becoming a plant parent! What are your go-to easy plants? I definitely need Advice Needed! Let's chat. about it in the comments!

Saving My Plants With Hydrogen Peroxide + Benefits
The other day, my Monstera gave me a big scare. I noticed dark spots on a brand new unfurled leaf. The rest of the plant looked great so I was confused what might be causing that. I just knew it wasn’t normal. When I pulled the plant from its pot, the entire soil block slid out in 1 piece. Inside

In the beginning of my journey I was just so eager to collect them all— I forgot why I was collecting them in the first place. To admire their beauty and care for them. I lost sight of this— having so many that i couldn’t keep up with the care. I lost interest, so naturally I lost a lot of plants.
