I see riots in our future if we don’t change the way we operate as a society
—
Reflecting on the notion that riots may erupt if society continues on its current path, I have witnessed firsthand the consequences of systemic neglect and inequality in various communities. Social unrest often stems from prolonged frustration caused by economic disparity, lack of access to essential services, and political disenfranchisement. From my experience, meaningful change requires a collective effort to rebuild social and economic structures in a fairer way. Socialism, as mentioned in the article, offers a framework where the community collectively owns and manages resources, aiming to reduce inequalities that breed unrest. While it is not a one-size-fits-all solution, elements of socialist principles, such as universal healthcare, affordable housing, and equitable education, can lessen societal tensions. In my own community, I have seen how grassroots movements advocating for these changes can foster hope and engagement, preventing despair from turning into chaos. Education plays a key role; when people understand their rights and have opportunities to improve their circumstances, social cohesion strengthens. On the flip side, ignoring these needs will only widen divides and increase the risk of riots as expressions of deeper grievances. Hence, pushing for reforms that address social justice, economic equity, and political inclusion is essential. Small steps like supporting fair labor laws, increasing minimum wages, and ensuring equal access to resources gradually reshape the fabric of society. These efforts demand collaboration from individuals, organizations, and governments alike to forge a society where unrest becomes unnecessary because people's fundamental needs and rights are met.
