💛Tips for Traveling to Cartagena,Colombia (Pt.2)💛

1️⃣One of the best things about Cartagena? It’s walkable! Both Getsemaní and El Centro (Walled City) are compact, vibrant, and easy to navigate on foot. Here’s how to make the most of it:

Save Your Locations Offline 🗺️📲

Before heading out, download Google Maps offline for Cartagena. Mark your hotel, key attractions, and favorite restaurants. It’s a lifesaver if your signal drops!

2️⃣ Bring Small Bills 💵💰

Cash is king for street vendors, taxis, and smaller shops. Use Colombian pesos, and have smaller bills or coins ready to avoid issues with change.

3️⃣ Bring Lightweight Clothing & Sunscreen 🩴🌞

Cartagena is hot and humid! Stick to breezy fabrics, light colors, and comfy sandals. Bonus: Pack a wide-brim hat or get a chic one at the local markets to protect yourself from the sun. Also, get lots of sunscreen and a small travel-sized one for reapplying while exploring.

4️⃣🌦️ Know the Rainy Seasons in Colombia

• Colombia’s rainy seasons are typically April to May and October to November. Expect short, heavy showers during these months.

• I visited in January, and the weather was perfect—sunny, warm, and ideal for exploring! Plan your trip during December to March for drier days and plenty of sunshine.

... Read moreWhen I first started planning my Cartagena adventure, the weather was my biggest concern. Everyone told me about the heat, but what about the rain? Learning about the distinct rainy and dry seasons truly transformed my trip planning. It's not just about avoiding rain; it's about understanding what each season offers and how to make the most of your visit to this incredible part of Colombia. The article mentioned the typical rainy seasons (April to May and October to November), and I quickly learned that 'rainy' doesn't necessarily mean a washout. During my visit in what was technically a shoulder month, I experienced short, intense downpours followed by bright sunshine. It taught me to always carry a compact umbrella or a light rain jacket. The upside? Fewer crowds at popular spots like Getsemaní and the Walled City, and the city felt incredibly lush and vibrant. Plus, I found some amazing deals on tours and accommodations, which was a nice bonus! Don't let the idea of Rainy vs Dry Season deter you; just be prepared for a bit of dramatic weather that usually passes quickly. On the flip side, the dry season (December to March) is pure sunshine and perfect beach weather. This is when Cartagena truly comes alive with festivals and outdoor events. If you're dreaming of lounging on the Rosario Islands or exploring the city's plazas late into the night, this is your time. However, be ready for more tourists and potentially higher prices. Booking everything well in advance is a golden rule for this period! Hydration is key during these sunny months, so always carry a water bottle. Beyond the weather, my trip taught me a lot about navigating Cartagena. The original TRAVEL TIPS mentioned walkability, which is so true! I loved just wandering through the colorful streets, discovering hidden gems. But for longer distances or late-night excursions, taxis are common. My personal trick was to always agree on the fare before getting in, as meters aren't always used, especially for tourists. And those tips about Save your locations offline? Absolutely crucial! There were moments when my data signal decided to vanish in a crowded market or a narrow alley. Having my hotel and key spots pinned on Google Maps offline meant I never felt lost or stressed about finding my way back. And let's talk about money. The advice to Bring Cash is absolutely spot-on. While bigger restaurants and shops accept cards, many street vendors, small craft stalls, and even some local eateries prefer or only accept Colombian pesos. I learned to always carry small denominations – 5,000, 10,000, and 20,000 peso notes – because getting change for a 50,000 peso note for a small purchase can be a hassle. It also made haggling a bit easier sometimes for souvenirs! I also found that Bring light clothing and sunscreen was critical; I packed breathable linen and cotton, and reapplied sunscreen constantly throughout the day. A wide-brim hat was my best friend against the intense Caribbean sun. My final TRAVEL TIPS? Immerse yourself in the food scene! From fresh ceviche to delicious arepas and empanadas, the street food is incredible. Always look for busy stalls – a good sign of freshness and taste. And don't forget to try local juices like Lulo or Maracuya. Cartagena is truly a sensory delight that offers something unique in every season, as long as you're prepared!
