... Read moreLearning a new language, especially one as rich and nuanced as Italian, can truly transform your life if you commit to it fully. My journey started with zero knowledge—even struggling to speak a single word—but over nearly three years, I witnessed astonishing progress. One of the most fulfilling parts is immersing yourself in the culture and hearing the language not just in textbooks but alive in the streets of Rome. Italians often speak in regional dialects, like Romanesco, which adds an exciting layer to learning. At first, understanding these dialects seemed impossible, but gradually I could follow the majority of conversations around me—about 90%! It’s a reminder that language learning isn’t just about words, but about connection and experience. The hardest, yet most essential, part of this journey has been embracing discomfort. Speaking imperfectly meant making mistakes—mispronouncing words, mixing verb tenses, and even slipping Spanish in at times—but these challenges pushed me to keep improving. If you’re learning a language, my advice is to speak as much as possible and don’t fear errors; they're part of progress. Living a double life across America and Rome has been a blessing. It allows me to practice daily and share this adventure with others who are learning alongside me. Whether you’re learning Italian or any language, perseverance is key—whenever you feel stuck, just remember not to give up! Every small step forward brings incredible rewards. Here's to many more lessons ahead and to anyone out there taking on a similar challenge.
