College Tips for Transfers and Freshmen

2025/12/2 Edited to

... Read moreStarting college as a transfer or freshman can be both thrilling and challenging. One of the best ways to settle in is by finding welcoming spots on or near campus, such as local coffee shops where you can study or relax without the distractions often found in university libraries. Making your living space your own by playing your favorite music or decorating can also boost your mood and help combat feelings of loneliness. Exploring the university’s recreation center and other campus amenities not only helps you stay active but also provides organic opportunities to meet people. Joining clubs, attending campus events, or simply working out at the gym can open doors to forming meaningful connections. Remember, many students feel the same apprehension about making friends, so taking the first step to say hello can make a big difference. Building at least one genuine friendship early on can be a gateway to a broader social network, which is crucial since college can sometimes feel isolating and exhausting. It’s important to keep these friendships close and lean on them during challenging times. Ultimately, college offers a rich array of experiences—academically, socially, and personally—and embracing all it has to offer will enhance your journey and make it a memorable and rewarding chapter of your life.
