Love shouldn’t feel like this

like a bruise I keep pressing just to prove it’s still there.

I gave you everything soft in me,

the parts I was supposed to keep hidden,

the quiet pieces that only come out in the dark

and you held them like they were temporary.

That’s what makes me angry.

Not that I loved you

but that I loved you right.

I showed up.

I stayed when it got heavy.

I chose you in moments

when it would’ve been easier to walk away.

And now I’m left carrying

the weight of something that only I was lifting.

Do you know what that does to a person?

It turns love into something sharp.

Turns memories into accusations.

Turns my own heart into a place

I don’t feel safe in anymore.

Because I still love you

and that’s the part that makes me furious.

I want to rip your name out of my chest

the way you slipped out of my hands

quiet, unfinished, without explanation.

But it’s still here.

Still echoing.

Still choosing you,

even when I don’t want it to.

And I hate that.

I hate that loving you
