For example, someone with a secure attachment style might look for genuine connection and shared values in a profile, while someone with an anxious attachment style might be drawn to profiles that promise stability or reassurance. When you swipe right, ask yourself: is it purely physical attraction, or are there deeper qualities that resonate based on your early relational experiences? If you tend to swipe left quickly, it could be that certain profile characteristics trigger feelings of disengagement or fear of intimacy linked to your attachment patterns. From my experience, reflecting on these tendencies during therapy can be eye-opening. It helps clients become more intentional in their dating choices and recognize patterns that might be repeating from past relationships. Understanding your attachment style can lead to healthier dating habits and better emotional outcomes. Interestingly, considering a client’s dating profiles during sessions can be a fun and practical way to explore their personal dynamics. It breaks down complex psychological concepts into real-world scenarios. Try observing what attracts or repels you on profiles and relate those feelings back to your attachment style–this self-awareness is a powerful tool for growth and healthier relationships.
