What I learned from a 3-month workshop at…

Boston
1/9 Edited to

... Read moreChoosing the right songs is a game-changer when it comes to vocal performance. During my 3-month workshop at Manhattan School of Music, I found that understanding your vocal range and personality is just the starting point. One powerful technique I adopted was recording myself singing different songs and reflecting on which felt most genuine. This exercise helped me connect not only technically but emotionally with the music, which made a huge difference on stage. Another important takeaway was that song choice isn't only about hitting the right notes—it's about storytelling. Selecting pieces that align with your personal style and message gives your performance authenticity that audiences can sense instantly. I realized that songs which truly resonate with who I am enable me to express deeper emotions, making every show memorable. Building a versatile repertoire takes time and consistent practice. My peers recommended a useful app called Singing Lessons, which tailors daily vocal routines suited to your level and tracks your progress. Incorporating such tools can simplify skill development and prepare you for new challenges confidently. Overall, the workshop taught me that the secret to shining as a singer lies in embracing songs that feel right for you—not just popular hits. This approach fosters growth, enhances enjoyment, and ultimately creates an unforgettable performance experience.
