... Read moreIt's so relatable to find yourself on 'Day 1... again,' isn't it? As someone who’s been there countless times, I completely understand how life can throw curveballs that derail even the best intentions. The key isn't perfection, but persistence – and knowing that every step, even a restarted one, counts! If you're struggling to get back on track with your movement goals, especially after major life changes like postpartum recovery, here are a few things that have really helped me.
First, let's talk about making those 10,000 steps feel less like a chore and more like a natural part of your day. Instead of thinking you need one long, grueling walk, try breaking it down. Can you take a 15-minute walk in the morning, another at lunchtime, and then an evening stroll? Those small bursts add up quickly and can feel much more manageable. I often find myself checking my smartwatch throughout the day – seeing the active calories burn and my heart rate elevate, even for short durations like what my fitness data showed at 02:41.29, gives me a little push to keep going. It’s amazing how much tracking can motivate you!
Comfort is non-negotiable. Invest in good walking shoes! Your feet will thank you, and it makes the entire experience much more enjoyable. Secondly, don't underestimate the power of a good playlist or an engaging podcast. It's incredible how quickly time flies when you're engrossed in something, making those longer walks feel shorter. Sometimes, I even call a friend or family member during my walk; it's a great way to multitask and connect while moving.
Beyond just hitting a step count, think about the broader benefits. Walking isn't just about walking to lose weight or achieving a body transformation; it's fantastic for mental clarity, reducing stress, and boosting your energy levels. Especially for postpartum recovery, gentle movement like walking can aid in healing, improve mood, and help you regain strength at your own pace. Always listen to your body, though! Some days might be for shorter, slower walks, and that's perfectly fine. Hydration is also super important, so carry a water bottle with you.
If you're finding it hard to fit walks into a busy schedule with little ones, get creative! Can you walk to a nearby park instead of driving? Or maybe invest in a jogging stroller? Even pacing around the house or playing actively with your kids can contribute to your step count. Remember, this journey is about finding balance and building sustainable habits, not about punishing yourself. There will be days when you don't hit your goal, and that's okay. Just acknowledge it, and then show up for 'Day 1... again' tomorrow. You've got this!
You’ve got this! I also just started again for the the 100th time on Monday 😂
