Some Tips and Tricks Before Traveling!

Traveling is the best thing in the world! The world is so beautiful and I think everyone should have the opportunity to see what it has to offer. When you do get the chance, here are some things you should do before visiting a country:

- Download the airline’s app! Not only are a lot of airlines switching to apps for in-flight entertainment, but you get real-time updates on your flight (gate changes, delays, etc) instead of trying to listen over the intercom or refreshing your email. Game changer for flying!

- Learn a few phrases in the country’s language! One of my biggest Icks when traveling is when people assume people in other countries speak English. Ummm can you say “entitled”? Learn a few phrases and make the effort! Not only is it more respectful, but they will appreciate the effort and be much nicer to you.

- Similarly, learn the culture’s etiquette so that you don’t unintentionally offend people in the country you’re going to be in. Every country is different, so it’s important to do this research. Not to mention, not doing so can get you in trouble in some countries if you’re not careful.

One of the first steps you should take is to download your airline's app. Not only does it give you access to in-flight entertainment, but it also provides real-time updates on flight status, gate changes, and any delays, which can alleviate stress at the airport. Learning a few basic phrases in the native language is another valuable tip. It shows respect to the local culture and can greatly enhance your experience. For instance, simple greetings or expressions of thanks can go a long way in building rapport with locals, leading to warmer interactions. Don’t assume everyone speaks English; making the effort to communicate in their language is often appreciated. Additionally, understanding local etiquette is just as important. Each culture has its own norms and practices, so researching these beforehand can prevent any unintentional faux pas. This might involve knowing when to bow in certain countries, the importance of dining etiquette, or appropriate dress codes when visiting religious sites. Such knowledge not only ensures you respect the culture but can also keep you out of trouble in places where laws regarding behavior are stricter. Last but not least, always stay curious and open-minded during your travels, and you're sure to create unforgettable memories.
