No to People Pleasing

1/14 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my personal experience, learning to say no to constant approval-seeking was transformative. In the past, I spent so much energy trying to please everyone around me, but as the saying goes, "There is no reason to be a people pleaser. People are never pleased." This made me realize that no matter what I did, someone would always want more or be dissatisfied. Letting go of this pattern opened up space for genuine self-respect and honesty in my relationships. I began setting clear boundaries, which empowered me to protect my time and emotional energy. Although it was challenging at first, especially confronting the fear of disappointing others, the freedom I gained was worth it. I started focusing on living authentically — making choices aligned with my own values rather than external approval. I also found that this change connected me with people who truly respect and support me for who I am, rather than for the facade I was putting up to please them. If you are struggling with people pleasing, remember that setting boundaries isn't selfish; it's necessary for your mental and emotional well-being. Choose yourself, embrace your true self, and experience the peace that comes from living authentically. This approach fosters self-respect and helps build healthier, more honest connections with others.

People-Pleasing 😬
Some people learned survival by staying small, agreeable, helpful, and “easy,” but constantly putting everyone else first comes at a cost. People-pleasing isn’t just being “nice.” It’s often fear of rejection, conflict, abandonment, or disappointing others. Healing starts when you realize:

People-pleasing in adulthood 🌸🍋🫶🏼
I don’t think people (therapists included) appreciate how much deeper people-pleasing goes than just simply saying no more often. People pleasing is another nervous system response that is celebrated by others because it benefits them and appears to be something “good” or “nice.” If we want to

used to think I was just being kind. Helpful. The one who always showed up. The girl with a “big heart” and “soft energy.” But deep down? I wasn’t doing it for them. I was doing it for me. Because saying yes felt safer than sitting with the guilt of saying no. No one talks about this enough:
