Subtl Beauty Stack review

NOT SPONSORED OR AFFILIATED! I just wanted to give an honest and VERY DETAILED review since I only see ad’s or sponsored posts. I purchased my original (pink/nude) stack in September of 2022 before a trip to Disney. I kept seeing the ad on tiktok so I caved and purchased it. So what is Subtl beauty?

The original name was “Ho on the Go” inspired by the creators needs for not wanting to bring her whole make up bag for “adult sleepovers” she would fill empty contact cases with the beauty products she needed.

THE COST: On the website you purchase each layer of the stack individually based on your needs. They do have some “pre-made” stacks available. The cheapest premade stack is $25 (before tax and shipping) for a lip & cheek and a cream highlighter. If you want a premade stack with concealer, powder, bronzer, lip & cheek, highlight- that’s $60.

If you want one of everything, it will quickly add up. For a fully stacked, stak (concealer, lip & cheek, shine control powder, highlighter, eyeshadow, bronzer, blush AND a lip balm) will cost $138 but this includes free shipping, a free brush(not pictured), and your stack mirror/lid as well as your stack base which includes a brush.

Realistically, you don’t need EVERYTHING. My suggestion would be to get something similar to my 2.0 stack minus the dry brush cleaner. I thought I’d use the brush cleaner more than I do, so it was kinda a waste. I purchased my 2.0 stack because I thought the OG would be compatible but it’s not.

Personally, I do love the convenience of the stacks. I don’t like the concealer. It doesn’t mix with most of my foundations. In my OG stack I scooped it out and replaced it with my REM beauty concealer. I will most likely do the same with this new stack. If you love a medium to full coverage concealer maybe skip buying the concealer. The shade matching tool they have on the website was very accurate which is helpful.

The rest of the products are a great match though. I do like the shine control powder and Subtl makes my favorite shade of pink blush. The bronzer is comparable to the benefit Hula bronzer. The eyeshadows aren’t revolutionary but they’re good. The lip and cheek I prefer as lip products but they do blend well with other liquid/cream products. For me, this is great for weekend trips to visit my siblings or if I have a date after work. Everything is well pigmented, the lip & cheek I use often but a little goes a long way. Again the blush and bronzer arent game changing but since I’ve run out of my usual I’ve been using the OG stak ones no problem.

Nothing in this stack has completely replaced my make up routine. For me, that’s not what this is for. This is for convenience and touch ups. Overall I am really happy with this and think it’s helpful to have.

Who is this for?

The women in the go or the minimalist. The concealer gives a little coverage but nothing crazy. This can also be good for a beginner who’s just learning and wants to start off simple.

👍Pros: • The products are cruelty free and vegan

• The updated purple stack has refillable layers so less plastic waste.

• It’s compact, everything you need is in one spot.

• Cheaper than buying a ton of travel or mini products to keep in your purse.

🤔Cons: • Can be pricey depending on what you get. Each layer is between 12-18 dollars.

• Can only purchase online.

•I don’t love the concealer

... Read moreAfter diving deep into my Subtl Beauty Stack experience, I wanted to share a bit more to help you decide if this viral stackable makeup is right for your routine. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype, but let’s talk about some specifics that might make a difference for you, especially when it comes to customizing your own makeup stack. First off, let’s revisit the Subtl Beauty concealer. In my original review, I mentioned it wasn't my favorite, and I stand by that. While the shade matching tool on their site was surprisingly accurate, I found the coverage to be quite light for my needs. For someone who prefers a sheer, natural look or just needs minimal brightening for under-eyes, it might work! However, if you're like me and need something with a bit more oomph to cover blemishes or dark circles, you might find it falls short. That's why I personally opted to scoop it out of my OG stack and replace it with my go-to REM beauty concealer. It’s a bit of a hack, but it made my makeup stack truly functional for me. It’s worth noting that the 2.0 stack also includes a concealer, and my experience was similar, so consider your coverage preference before committing to that layer. Another common question I see is, “Is Subtl Beauty clean?” The brand proudly states that its products are cruelty-free and vegan, which is fantastic and a huge plus for many of us conscious consumers. When people talk about 'clean beauty,' they often refer to products free from certain ingredients like parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. While Subtl Beauty emphasizes its cruelty-free and vegan status, if a comprehensive 'clean' ingredient list is a top priority for you, I’d always recommend checking their specific ingredient lists on their website. For me, knowing it's cruelty-free and vegan gives me peace of mind, aligning with my desire for more ethical beauty choices. Now, let's talk about maximizing your stackable makeup experience in general. What I love about the concept of makeup stacks is the sheer customization. My original review touched on not needing *everything*, and I can't stress that enough. Think about your daily essentials. Do you truly use bronzer, blush, lip & cheek, and eyeshadow every single day? For my 2.0 stack (the purple stack with refillable layers), I’ve learned to be strategic. I found the shine control powder to be excellent, and I use the blush and bronzer regularly. However, the dry brush cleaner layer, as I mentioned, wasn't as useful as I thought. I initially thought it would be a game-changer for on-the-go touch-ups, but a quick spritz of a daily brush cleaner or even just a tissue works just as well for me. Don't be afraid to skip layers you won't use often, or even buy an empty one to house a product you already love, like I did with my concealer. Finally, some practical tips for your subtl stacks: Keep them handy! They’re designed for convenience. I keep mine in my gym bag, at my desk for quick refreshes before meetings, or in my carry-on for weekend trips. The pink stack, my original, still gets a lot of love for quick errands. The refillable layers in the newer purple stack are a fantastic upgrade, making it more sustainable and easier to interchange products as you run out. Just remember, these stacks are for convenience and touch-ups, not necessarily for a full, elaborate makeup routine. Embrace them for what they are: beautifully compact, efficient beauty solutions for your busiest days.
