I took my first job for experience & flexibility.

My first ‘real’ job came at 24 and was offered to me just before I finished grad school. As I’m almost 1 year into this position as a marketing manager, I am realizing why I took this job.

✨In reality, any job out of college is a good job. Even if I didnt like it, I knew I had to take something.

My current, and first job, turned out to be great. I get tons of flexibility from things like 20+ PTO days, to a hybrid schedule (current set up 😍)

Also, being a one person marketing team has let me gain more experience than I ever would if I was at a larger company with a larger team.

My wide range of tasks from social media management to global travel has given me exactly what I wanted from a first job. I’ll be able to take these tools and experiences to a new company in the future and thrive!

However, the right job can simultaneously offer essential experience and desirable flexibility. For many, like myself, the initial role can lay the groundwork for future opportunities. In today’s job market, flexibility in working conditions—such as remote work options and generous PTO—is increasingly valued. Jobs that allow for personal development and diverse experiences can significantly enhance skillsets. As a marketing manager responsible for various tasks, I am gaining expertise in areas from social media strategy to international operations, skills that will be transferable to any future employer. A versatile role not only develops hard skills but also encourages adaptability and creativity. This holistic approach to career-building is vital for anyone starting their professional journey. Embracing the first job wholeheartedly can make a significant difference in long-term career satisfaction. If you’ve recently started your career, consider how your current role can serve as a launching point. Reflect on what skills you can develop to prepare for your next career move. It’s essential to engage in self-assessment to identify which competencies will be most beneficial in the long run.
