Rating the job that sparked my marketing career!

Job Title: Events & Social Media Manager for The Husky Paw

This was the job that truly sparked my love for marketing. I was hired to help promote the Husky Paw, a student-run gym where physical therapy students could practice hands-on skills with other students. It was a new concept on campus, and I got to build the brand from the ground up.

For 9 months, I ran the social media accounts, created awareness campaigns, and planned small events to bring in students. I worked independently on all things marketing but collaborated with a small group of student PTs and had a faculty advisor as my supervisor.

The pros?

✔️ I set my own schedule (5-10 hours/week)

✔️ I could work from anywhere (with occasional office visits which was very laid back)

✔️ I had full creative control — and no prior expectations to follow

✔️ Paid position & they paid 1/2 of my tuition!!

The cons?

✖️ There was zero budget

✖️ It was hard to gain traction and get students to actually use the free resources

✖️ At times, it felt unorganized and directionless

Still, this role helped me realize how much I love combining wellness, creativity, and content strategy.

It wasn’t perfect, but it shaped the career path I’m now fully invested in.

For that, I’d give it a solid 4.2/5 ⭐️

Would I take this job again? Absolutely… but I’d find a way to get a budget 🤗

Every opportunity, even those that feel disorganized or underfunded, contributes to professional growth.
