books with ace main characters!

GUYS HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THESE BOOKS WERE THE COLORS OF THE ASEXUAL FLAG UNTIL I STARTED EDITING? i love that for this post.

sometimes aro/ace identities are forgotten in pride month posts, so here are two absolutely wonderful reads with asexual main characters!

elatsoe is the sweetest, coziest paranormal mystery. it has elements of darkness, but it’s ultimately this shining story of family legacy and healthy relationships and just being there for the people you love. ellie is an amazing main character and there are even ghost dinosaurs!

beautyland is such a fun and quirky read. i love books with a very specific narrative voice, and this one definitely falls into that bucket. whether or not the main character is actually an alien doesn’t matter. this is her story and her observations on humanity are so sharp!

... Read moreIn recent years, representation of diverse identities in literature has gained significant traction. Asexuality, often overlooked, is gradually finding its place in mainstream narratives. The books 'Elatsoe' and 'Beautyland' are prime examples of asexual representation, offering readers a chance to engage with unique characters who challenge conventional norms. 'Elatsoe', written by Darcie Little Badger, follows the story of Ellie, a Lipan Apache teenager with the ability to bring dead animals back to life. This enchanting blend of mystery and cultural heritage not only boasts engaging supernatural elements but also emphasizes the importance of family bonds, a theme that resonates deeply within the asexual community. Meanwhile, 'Beautyland' by Bentina Awovee provides a whimsical take on identity. The narrative is colored with humor and sharp observations about human nature through the eyes of a girl who believes she might be an alien. This angle offers a fresh perspective on societal norms and personal identity, making it a compelling read for those interested in exploring the complexities of self-acceptance and belonging. As Pride Month approaches, these titles serve as vital reminders of the diverse narratives that need to be celebrated. They encourage discussions surrounding asexuality, challenging stereotypes and fostering understanding within the wider LGBTQ+ community. Whether you're a member of the asexual community yourself or an ally, these stories are a testament to the power of inclusion in literature.
